Here's why Bush's saying 'I never said 9/11=Saddam' quote is a good thing.
“First-just if I might correct a misperception, I don’t think we ever said, at least I know I didn’t say that there was a direct connection between September 11th and Saddam Hussein.”

It's a good thing because...

1) As we all know, it show's his unwillingness to acknowledge things he's said in the past. Or, in other words, HE'S A LIAR.

and,

2) Here's the important one. He's admitting something that freepers and ignorant Americans have been stating for years now. It's something they've been holding on to as reason for us being in Iraq. I know that not everyone will hear this quote, or even believe it, but it at least shows these ignorant Bush apologists that once again we were right; and it feels so good.

2. It is the VISCERAL reason most americans can grab a hold of.
Let's face it, we are pretty far away for the WMDs to be an issue (plus none were found)..... and who really gives a shit about democracy?

4. I agree.
It doesn't matter if * thinks he can back-pedal out of it. The fact of the matter is that his supporters got the message they were trying to get across and that was that attacking Iraq was getting back at those who caused 9/11. It's kind of along the same lines as the ports deal. * et al were constantly pushing the Arab = terrist = bad meme which then came back to bite them in the butt with the ports deal. It's sort of the same thing -- now that * feels the need to back out of his 9/11 = Iraq mantra, the vaguely aware that make up his ever-decreasing base are being hit in the face with the fact that their beloved leader is telling them something different than what they have been told to believe. I don't think it's going to go over so well with them.

7. Yes....if, there's no link between Saddam and 9/11 and
there are no WMD's and Condi said we weren't going in for a regime change....then, why did we go in the first place..and why are we still there?

8. This morning on the Today Show, they showed Bush saying,
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 09:17 AM by tasteblind
"I was very careful never to accuse Saddam of ordering the attacks on America."

I think that is the soundbite of the week. It shows that he was deliberately trying to give that impression without actually saying it.

11. More word parsing
No, you didn't say that there was a DIRECT connection between Saddam and 9/11. But you DID say there was an INDIRECT one!

13. I posted this on another thread (Bush links 9/11 and Saddam)
This was posted by someone on the Crooks and Liars website in response to the Keith Olberman "Who does *think he' f*cking kidding" post ((http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/03/20.html#a7595)

Gee, Mr. Bush, I wonder why so many Americans thought Saddam was involved with 9/11?

1) On Sept. 25, 2002, Bush said, "You can't distinguish between al-Qaeda and Saddam when you talk about the war on terror."

2) On May 1, 2003, aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, beneath the "Mission Accomplished" banner, he declared, "We have removed an ally of al-Qaeda and cut off a source of terrorist funding."

3) Also on May 1, 2003: "The battle of Iraq," he said, "is one victory in a war on terror that began on Sept. 11, 2001. With that attack, the terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States. And war is what they got."

4) Last Sept. 14, on Meet the Press, Cheney said that a U.S. success in Iraq will mean "that we will have struck a major blow right at the heart of the base, if you will, the geographic base of the terrorists who have had us under assault now for many years, but most especially on 9/11."

They act as though Gutenberg never existed. Unfortunately, so does the MSM.

14. And yet according to a February 2006 Zogby poll...
"Almost 90% (of American soldiers in Iraq) think war is retaliation for Saddam's role in 9/11."

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1075

Where oh where could they have gotten that idea?
