Bush: "Islamofascists." WTF?
Is this the first time he's used that word? It's the first time that I can remember hearing him use it. Confirmation that even HE gets his talking points from right-wing radio.

But he couched it by saying "some call it 'Islamofascism.'"

4. This time, no such couching.
I'll have to look up the exact quote, but I think it was something like, "The Islamofascists will be emboldened."

My head is spinning listening to this crap, so I can't remember the exact quote. But he was most definitely using the term himself, not attributing it to others this time.

7. Such a silly word
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 11:25 AM by Marie26
I think he first used it in his big "terror, terror" speech back in October. I'd never heard the term before - they may have just made it up. It seems like classic projection - look, we're not the facists, they are! What exactly is the relationship between terrorism & facism, except that they're both bad things? It seems like facism comes from people in control of the structures of society, while terrorism comes from people w/o power who are seeking to destroy the structures of a society. To put them together in the same word is just wrong. It's an oxymoron, I think. It's also interesting that he chooses the word "facism" instead of the proper term, "Islamic fundamentalism." Wouldn't want to alienate his base or anything by implying fundamentalism is bad. The word itself is meaningless, except that it adds that extra little twist to people who think "terrorism" itself isn't scary enough. Maybe "Islamo-evildoers" is next?
