Iraq vs Vietnam

I spoke with a soldier who did a tour in Iraq. He told me that on at least one occasion it was necessary for someone to take out a 6 or so year old boy who was running towards our troops with a hand grenade in his hand. Similar things happened in Vietnam.... the man who had to pull the trigger will most likely NEVER be the same, similarly many who returned from Vietnam ended up "not the same ever" homeless, jobless and haunted for life. 4Moronic Years, what you got above happens all the time in a war zone. More than you can imagine. The U.S. government will never tell the public about this situation but it does happen and effects many Veterans to this day.

3. Welcome 1stCav..... and yes, I have seen the photos of the

children in Iraq who were foolish enough to carry AK's and other items best left to those who understand what they are getting themselves into when they do.... I am so sorry that this is the reality of a war zone.... and I am so pissed off that this admin pretends its not the case, shame on them. We supposedly were trying to make the world a safer place, and I don't think that is where we are headed at all. A theocracy in Iraq is the last thing we wanted... and now look at what the women of Basra are having to deal with... far far worse than when the boogeyman was at the helm.

2. The greatest similarity with Vietnam is that, in both cases

our troops and innocent Iraqis are dying so that "Our President" doesn't have to admit he was wrong.

5. There are lots of similarities.

The nightmarish story you recount is definitely reminicent of Vietnam, but what gets me is the similarity of the rhetoric used by the DOD and the admin.

6. Yes, it is not just the danger of dying or losing limbs, but losing soul

putting young people in these situations is just wrong. And not taking care of them when they return is also wrong. But wronger is dong this in the first place. Peace to my vet friends.

they send other peoples' children into a living hell from which many never return. It's apalling in the extreme.

who did not learn the lesson of Vietnam? Or those (because they ducked service like cowards) who learned the wrong message from Vietnam?

And while Iraq is mainly deserts and Vietnam jungles, they both have pronoun named rivers, the MeiKong and Euphrates...
