Frankly, given the Bushco track record of not going after nuclear powers, Iran would be indeed foolish not be persuing nuclear arms. Bush long ago declared them to be part of the Axis of Evil, and they now have a target painted on them. The thing is that much like Iraq, Bush isn't concerned with whether or not they have nukes, he and his oily gang are in it for the oil

However, all speculation aside, what the evidence shows is that Iran is not developing a nuclear weapons program. They are developing a nuclear energy program however, and they have every right to do so. In fact, quite frankly, they have every right to develop a nuclear weapons program too. They are a sovereign, independent nation, who has the right, within the bounds of international laws and treaties, to do whatever the hell they please. Who the hell are we to tell them otherwise? Put ourselves in their shoes for a minute. If, say, Venezuala told us hey, the US can't develop such and such weapons system, how would the government and the public react? Anger, scorn and derision. So why are these people suprised when Iran reacts in the same way?

And quite frankly, all this talk about an Iranian nuclear weapons program is so much hype. Even if Iran were allowed to pursue such a program unfettered, it would take them at least ten years to develop a bomb. Then even longer to develop a delivery system that would take said bomb beyong their borders to Israel or elsewhere in the region. And even further years to develop a delivery system capable of putting such a bomb in the US.

This is all so much bluff and bluster on Bushco's part, vague accusations to get the public behind the upcoming Iranian invasion. What's really sad is that during all of this, we're ignoring the real worldwide nuclear program, and that is the left over Soviet era nukes that are floating around, primed and ready for sale on the black market. After the Soviet Union folded, these nukes weren't secured properly, and possibly fell into the wrong hands. Even if they were secured at the time, they're still around, in the hands of cash strapped countries who could easily sell them on the black market. And yet Bushco scrapped the only program that was getting rid of these loose nukes, dismantling them and getting rid of them. So instead of the nuclear threat level going down, it has gone up.
