At the start, Bush would say in a speech, “I choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other thingees, not because they are easy but because it is ‘hard work’”.
To market the war, fears of a ruthless moon dictator and his vast amounts of cheese would be exploited. Analysis by professionals that there were no moon creatures and the moon was not made out of cheese would be completely ignored.
We would be told that we would be greeted as liberators by the moon creatures
We would be told that the mission to the moon would pay for itself by selling the cheese.
We would be told that once the Moon was conquered, it would magically become Earth-like. And equally magically, all the other planets would become Earth-like as well.
Although experts would agree that 3 astronauts should go to the moon, the Bush Administration would go with only one.
Bush’s scientists were incapable of designing good rocket engines because they were told gravity was “just a theory”.
Shortly after the first successful launch and while the astronaut was still in earth orbit, Bush would announce "Mission Accomplished".
No plans were made for returning the astronaut back to earth.
37 years later, we’d still be trying to get to the moon and millions of Americas would still believe the Moon was inhabited with creatures and made of cheese. Experts on Fox News would insist the cheese was secretly moved to Mars.
