This morning on The Today Show, David Gregory was interviewing
Bushbot Dan Bartlett, and brought up a great point! He asked Bartlett about the Afghan man who has converted to Christianity and who is now under threat of death for abandoning Islam. Gregory asked Bartlett (paraphrasing here) .. How can we allow such governments to be installed that would do something like this? Bartlett did a song and dance about the shrub being very upset by this, but never touched on what would be done about it.

1. I had that same thought - you would think the administration
would be all over this situation.

5. I'm not surprised at all. I was just impressed that Gregory by asking
the question, was actually reporting on something that the "Liberal Media" has not yet reported on television.

3. entertaining, but without substance.
sure, it is wryly amusing that one of the first legal decisions without our input has been to condemn a former muslim for becoming a christian, but that is a symptom, not the cause. The entire mess in Afghanistan is getting worse by any measure. Opium production is several thousand times higher than during the Taliban reign. Any outlying school that dares teach girls will be or has been razed. Teachers have been stripped, had their skin cut off, and dragged through the villages until dead. There is no reconstruction effort anyplace in outskirts, except for weapons training and manufacturing.

I don't mind that Gregory asked what he did (one of the very few passable white house questioners) and I expected nothing more from Herr Bartlett, that little neonazi, but it misses the real issue. Our failure is guaranteed, because our effort was so half-hearted. The invasion of Iraq not only fucked up Iraq, it fucked up Afghanistan, as well.

6. Afghanistan, still as isolated today as it was under the Taliban
Money for reconstruction; gone.

Money to eliminate poppy growth and help farmers; gone.

Money to build pipeline across the country; on the way, full steam ahead.

If our Government bought the entire crop of poppy and converted it for medicinal use thereby lowering morphine and it's derivatives cost, the heroin would be taken off the market. But the Right is Right group would rather that the brown people be isolated. No see no problem.

sociopath administration to do anything meaningful about Afghanistan.

The CIA is doing very well now with the Poppies and the oil/gas pipeline is being built. And now! It's been discovered, surprise surprise that there are oil reserves in Afghanistan itself.

"is this what Americans are fighting for- the installation of Islamic Fundamentalist governemnts?'- something like that. It was a point the media has yet to harp on.
