GOP Senate candidate caught puffing up her resume

ALBANY, N.Y. - A former Pentagon official seeking the Republican nomination to run against Sen.
Hillary Rodham Clinton this year may have puffed up her resume.

The resume said Kathleen Troia "KT" McFarland drafted President Reagan's 1983 Star Wars speech and was the Pentagon's highest-ranking woman at the time.

But The New York Times, quoting Reagan administration and Pentagon officials from the era, reported Thursday that the part of Reagan's speech on the Strategic Defense Initiative was written by other aides. McFarland had worked on other sections of the speech, the Times reported.

The Times also noted that McFarland was a deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, a policy position. Two other women at the Pentagon were deputy undersecretaries, a higher rank, in administrative jobs.....
