"V" Has Friends ...... (short Video)

"There is something terribly wrong with this country isn’t there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and depression. And when once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have sensors and systems of surveillance, coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. I know you are afraid, who wouldn’t be? War, terror, disease; Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the high Chancellor Adam Sutler. He promised you order, he promised you peace. And all he demanded in return was your silent obedient consent. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me and together we shall give them a 5th of November that shall never ever be forgot."

Check out some of the responses on the above site. Awesome. Soon to become a cult classic. …… Personally I made the mistake of reading the Novelization by Steve More (based on the screenplay) before seeing the movie. SEE THE MOVE FIRST! The Novelization is available in paperback for $6.99 ….. Cheaper than one ticket to the movie ……. But mark my word ….. Again …SEE THE MOVIE FIRST!….. Here’s a link to the Novelization if interested (available at any bookstore ) …… it gets into the characters ’heads’ more, and sets things up (political commentary and such) more-so than the movie …… but once more …. SEE THE MOVIE FIRST! http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&isbn=1416516999&itm=3

I still have to check out the 1995 DC Comic “Graphic Novel” (Alan Moore, David Lloyd)…..where V originally came from at some point, maybe next week when I have a bit more time. But definitely worthy of my time. Link to that here….. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&isbn=0930289528&itm=1

Anyway some of my favorite lines from “V For Vendetta” ………. SEE THE MOVIE FIRST, But food for thought for those who have ……. Discuss …. and Peace. Freedom Forever!

“There is no certainty. Only opportunity”

“Symbols are given power by people. Alone a symbol is meaningless, but with enough people …….. ” (spoiler if I complete the quote)

“Artists tell lies to tell the truth, while politicians used them to cover the truth up”

“By the power of truth. I while living, have conquered the universe”

“But the truth is, after so many years, you begin to loose more than just your appetite. You wear a mask for so long, you forget who you were beneath it.”

“The more power he attains, the more obvious his zealotry, the more aggressive his supporters become”

“A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having”

“Council me what I am, and be my aid for such disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent”

“…. there is a face beneath this mask, but it isn’t me. I am no more that face than I am the muscles beneath it, or the bones beneath that.”

“Because this world, the world I am a part of and that I helped to shape, will end tonight. Tomorrow a different world will begin, that different people will shape, and this choice belongs to them.”

“Behind this mask there is an idea, and ideas are bulletproof”

Lastly if you pick up the Novelization by Steve More ….. Pages 140 to 145 … Wow. And the ending thoughts on pages 357 - 358 ….. give the ending more ‘heart’ to the matter if that’s possible. Peace again. :)

2. "V" has 8893 friends ...... on the above link .... so far ......
Chancellor Sutler has 2226 ..... but most of them are giving him a piece of their mind here .... http://www.myspace.com/chancellorsutler
 ... anyway .... the ideas in V for vendetta can be used, passed on, contemplated peacefully to make things change. So much on so many levels in the story to emulate in our own lives. "Hope" .... in the end.

Note: on the Chancellor link, some of the responses are worth reading too.

3. A novel of "V" is like a comic book of "Huck Finn."

NOVELIZATION? BASTARDS! MONSTERS!

The graphic novel "V" was based on was the first thing that showed me that a comic book could be more than a "comic book." That a simple writer could tell something using a largely visual art, and that visual arts aren't necessarily all that illiterate; that the old could be made new again; that we should drop our elitist pretensions as to the qualities and characteristics of what constitutes literature. It's not perfect, and Moore and others have written other, better things since then, but "V" will stand the test of time.

In a hundred years, when you flip to the chapter on "20TH CENTURY VIEWS ON DYSTOPIA" in the Norton Anthology of British Literature in your undergraduate class, you'll find excerpts from 1984, {i]Brave New World, AND V.

A novel of "V" is like a comic book of "Huck Finn."

Edit: Changed a "the" to a "that."

4. And your point is?
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 02:12 AM by doublethink
Your "offended" that someone would want to make "V" into a Movie? A Novelization? A more accessible and widespread sharing (imagination) of the beauty, the story, the original comic book "V" conveys to humanity .... ? V For Vendetta's thoughts and ideas? IMAGINATION is where any fiction originates, in whatever art-form. Why do you want to CENSOR that? Didn't "V" live for just what your arguing AGAINST? YOUR post seems 'pompous' in all honesty! No one is knocking "V" the comic book that I have seen ... anywhere. Especially not in this post, or thread. History will judge if V stands with Huck Finn, 1984, and so on .... on it's own volition. I hope your right.... But I look at 'V's story as more than "just a comic book" :sarcasm: and so did the creators of the movie as well as the well written novelization to go with it. Have you bothered to read the novelization? If your a 'fan' of "V" I would think you'd be delighted to see the recognition that this "comic book" :sarcasm: may make some difference in the REAL world politically by educating a few more people (through art and imagination) than just those buying tickets to the Comic Con Conventions wherever. Peace, and Freedom Forever. Doublethink. :)
