Here's a story for those that question why the NAACP et al are needed ....

(3/23/06 - KTRK/SPRING, TX) - A Spring family has been the victim of hate crimes and threats in their own home, as vandals spray painted racial slurs as graffiti. It's happened more than once, and they say authorities aren't doing enough to help them.

The family says if they were white and more affluent, more would be done. They're calling now for a renewed investigation and the involvement of the FBI. Not once, but twice in the last three months someone has spray painted '666', 'KKK' and the N-word on the Johnson property in Spring. A neighbor's home across the street was hit as well. The last time, someone also set fire to a car parked right in front of the Johnson home.

"It's sickening to think that people have not grown up and realized that this is 2006 now," said Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson has lived in the home for a year. She doesn't want to use her first name because she fears retaliation. But what bothers her just as much, she says, is how the sheriff's office has handled the case.

She said, "Well, I feel like the police department should have given us a little bit more support." With New Black Panther leader Quanell X by her side, Johnson lashed out at the sheriff's office, she says, for not investigating the hate crime thoroughly.
