1. It is just not healthy for this country
to have two families controlling the presidency for over a generation. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.
No matter how good Hillary would be. And I am not sure just how good that would be. I really want
the option to vote for someone else than a Bush or Clinton.

3. Good point.
You know who did not vote for the war? Al Gore, Howard Dean ... there may be others?

30. Completely Concur..
This is a fundelmental point that I wish people understood.

It cannot be allowed in this country.. it just can't.

if She is "elected" - it will be proof positive that we really do not have a democracy on any level, of any form.

the Conspiracy theories that will be generated from such a specture will run far more rampant than what has already been unearthed about the Bush Co.. which is quite formidable.

The cultural divide in this country may actually rise to the level of another real civil war or bring us periously close to it.

I cannot fathom why anyone, even the most loyal supporters, would want to dare risk the most obvious result from such an outcome.

I predict that a HRC ticket will actually result in another Republican (McCain) presidency for another possibly 8 years.

HRC supporters, please consider this very predictable result.

Is this what you really want?

2. Just say "No" to legacy Presidencies.
I've had it with people who exploit their names to gain office. How about a candidate who gains office on principle and on other qualities instead of "name".

No, I cannot and will not support a Clinton presidential candidacy. It's totally irrelevant whether she is qualified. It comes down to the fact that she could *never* win the office and would only deprive a fully qualified Democrat, one without DLC ties, to possibly gain the White House.

5. The repukes use her for
a propaganda weapon.
They have this "God, can you believe ANOTHER Clinton?" line.
The hate they have whipped up for the big dog is a tool to keep joe sixpack focused on other things besides their thieving and warmongering.

No, I don't support her.

7. Other-- Don't give a damn one way or the other...
because it will all be hashed out in the primaries anyway, and with a few new names in play by next year. Time for a dark horse to pop up.

And, absolutely nothing serious will be done until after November, when everyone sees how the new Congress stacks up and where the local state powers lie.

8. I like the idea of a woman President
Barbara Boxer! I like the idea of a progressive president, Barbara Boxer! Until she puts her name on the ballot, I will have to just see who the line up is. I will not vote for Joe Liberman, Diane Feinstein or Zell Miller. Wait, Zell at least had the integrity to change parties.

9. I voted other because of the math
Here are my assumptions:

1) 40% of the populous is hard right
2) 40% of the populous is hard left
3) 20% go with the wind

She gets 0% of the #1 votes.

She get 50% of the #2 votes (based on the hatred for her I see in this forum).

Let's call it a coin flip on the #3 votes (remember there are a lot of people who will never vote for a strong women).

She looses by 70% of the populous vote.

BTW, I will vote for her if she runs.

10. She will have trouble
attracting the people she seeks and trouble attracting many of the base as well. That's the problem with politicians that try to be everything for everybody in a very divided country.

12. Like her/hate her
I love her domestic policies. She would be an excellent president if all she did was take care of things in the States. But she voted for the war. And I can't in good conscience vote for anyone who will send our troops to war.

13. Bush Clinton Clinton Bush Bush Clinton Clinton does not appeal to me.
I don't really have strong feelings for or against her. I like some things about her, dislike other things. And I think it's too early to think about this anyway, if you're asking about '08. If she gets the nomination I'll vote for her but she won't be getting my vote in the primary. By 2008, 20 years of my life will have been lived with either a Bush or a Clinton in office. If she wins, (and assuming a second term win too), then it will be 28 years. I'm 27 now. It's time for a change of scenery.

14. Pander bear
It's not bad enough that she waffles on the war and the Urinary Executive, but then she has to make these horrible statements against flag burning and video games, and equivocating about choice.

Like the old cliche says, if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. Please, DLC, give us a candidate with convictions!

17. Very nice job on the poll. Well stated, and good choices.
Thanks.

I picked A&B. Amazing how she can be demonzed by the ultra-right as a communist-stalinist-leninst just as she has moved so far to the right that Atilla would like her at his side. Of course, calling out the media to film her going to a local church was craven and it back-fired on her.
Her position on Iraq, the Patriot, and more is confounding and ultimately, self-defeating.

I suspect that the general population is getting very tired of assholes who pick the supposed popular position, then end up acting in accordance to their lobbyists' demands, or who baldly try to be someone they are not.

From what I hear on the streets, even an agnostic, unbelieving, abortion supporting candidate can now win, if the voters believe that that candidate has America's best interests at heart. Not easily, but possible.

21. Thank you. I think there is some truth in all the choices.
I don't think Hillary is the villain many on the left and right make her out to be, but I also suspect her "centrist" positions.

Who is the "real" Hillary? Is it the college republican and Goldwater Girl? Is it the feminist lawyer? Is it the Health Care wonk? The wife of the popular right-leaning president? The war hawk senator from a state that did NOT support the war? The would be video game censor?

I don't know. The sad thing is, I see a LOT of talent and appeal there that seems to be going to waste by supporting these dissonant positions. She doesn't have the knack her husband had for connecting with people, but she is an appealing and interesting person. I suppose she could reposition and redefine herself in the next year or so to the point that she might be able to pull it off, but it looks unlikely.

At any rate, I'm not even convinced that she wants to run as the media keep saying...

19. I'm undecided
Pretty much every potential Democratic candidate has significant strenghts and weaknesses. Hillary's no different, and while I'm not ruling out supporting Hillary, I very much understand the concerns that many people have about her.

22. a and b
As smart as she is, I feel that there is still too much baggage there. They would have a field day with her. I also think there may be plenty of folks out there that aren't ready for a female president. I don't have any facts and figures to support that, it's just a gut feeling I have.

23. Too much baggage. We need a person who isn't going to give the opponents
ammunition before even out of the gate. It seemed Dean or the General were on the hot track but all of a sudden Kerry overtook them on the inside and won the nomination. IMO we lost then and there. I didn't know much about any of the contenders and still don't, compared to the majority here at DU. In the meantime, I've read some of what Dennis Kucinich has to say and am impressed. What is the matter with the average American, generally speaking? Does a candidate have to be tall and have an easily pronounceable last name before he can be in the running? Balderdash. Phooey and other expletives. People need to register to vote; registered voters need to vote, no matter how mucked up our voting system is right now. The candidate has to be given to truthfulness and taking a stand, no matter who it might offend or alienate. Let's stop this garbage about going after the "black" vote or the "Hispanic" vote or the "Jewish" vote. What about the "people who love goats" vote? God forbid we leave anyone out.

24. bush sr, bill clinton, bush jr....and then hillary clinton if she won
Having two families dominate this country for so long does NOT settle well with me at all. Don't get me wrong, I do like Hillary a lot even though I don't always agree with her. I do want her to run, but personally I'd rather she wait.

Someone who isn't a bush or a clinton should get their shot.

But if she runs and gets the nomination, I support her all the way.

Personally, I prefer Gore/Clinton for 08. That's the ticket I want to see.

While at the same time support from the left would be luke warm at best. A recipe for disaster.
