IMO Connecticut is THE Bellweather State
I realize Lieberman is probably going to win his Primary but by how much is the key. The way Connecticut votes in this Primary will send a signal across the nation to Democrats on the mood of the people. I just don't think they get it. They really want to get it but they just don't. They have been playing at the game of Politics for so long it is just old hat to them. The only thing of real importance to them is getting elected. They really don't understand just how serious this has gotten. It is about America. I mean really America. The land of Law and Order and Basic Freedom. The whole concept seems lost on them. They really don't seem to understand just how fragile our country truly is and how easily it can be perverted to something very much akin to a Crime Syndicate running it. Bush* has made it very apparent he feels he is above the Law and so is his entire Cabal. Connecticut holds the key. If Lieberman wins handily then all is lost because other supposed Leaders will simply shrug their shoulders and go back to business as usual. Maybe even open their doors a little wider for the Corporate Lobbiest to slither through. If Lieberman gets beaten or even only wins by a slim margin then some eyebrows will be raised and a glimmer of hope will survive. We must do whatever we can to educate Connecticut to what is at stake. Lieberman quite obviously does not understand but maybe the people will. As long as I live hope will remain. I Love and miss America but not Amerika.

2. If Lieberman 'doesn't get it', that's inexcusable and more than
enough reason to vote the bum out! How long has he been in Congress?
And that goes for the lot of them. They were elected to represent their constituents, not to be the 'yes men' for this corrupt admin. I just don't see enough politicians working in our best interests.

3. Two quibbles.
Well, really only one quibble and one observation. First, the quibble: the country has already become a crime syndicate. The amount of confirmation for this view seems, primarily, to depend on how closely it is examined and the examiner's political, moral and practical tilt.
The observation: A bit of humor. The term used is actually "bellwether." A wether is a male animal which has been neutered, specifically, a goat.
Sheep are regarded, with good reason, as being just about the stupidest of animals and, given their own direction, will proceed to get lost, fall over things, break legs, and, generally, show themselves to be totally incompetent at anything but eating, growing wool, and being eaten.
Goats are enormously intelligent animals, so having a goat to lead the sheep is a very good idea. To keep the goat from pursuing his natural proclivities (and, believe me, under "normal conditions" in season, buck goats have only one interest and it isn't food) his testicles are removed. The addition of a bell makes him a low tech direction finder and his aggressiveness provides some protection for the sheep.
So a "bellwether state" or "bellwether" politician would be one with no balls, who can be relied on hang out with the majority of the sheep, who may be smarter than the sheep but doesn't really understand why.

4. I plead totally guilty of that ignorance
I was under the impression it was something like when the wind starts to really blow the bell would ring and warn of coming storm or something along those lines. I never even heard of a wether. I learn new things every day on DU. Thanks.

5. Gives me a chuckle every time
some political mastermind refers to his champion of the moment as a "bell-wether!"
Some hack with no balls who happens to be smarter than sheep. Sounds like joe mentate-um, himself.
One of my prime failures is that of seeing hilarity in the grimmest of circumstances.

10. Another quibble
The bellwether isn't a goat, it's the lead sheep, traditionally a castrated ram.

Has Lowell Weicker made a decision yet?
If he were to decide to enter the race it could get real interesting.

9. Lowell wouldn't have a chance
While I like Lowell myself, lots of people in the state remember that he instigated the state income tax. And boy are they mad.

Also, I think Lowell's getting a bit long in the tooth for another run at public office.

11. The more people see Ned Lamont the more they like him.
The more people see and hear Lieberman, the less they like him. Lieberman was really petulant with Colin McEnroe the other day.
