Has there been ANY confirmation from CREDIBLE media of the ABC email?
I've been checking Google News occasionally since Drudge broke the "story" early yesterday afternoon, and so far there's been nothing on this except the usual blather in the rightwing echo chamber.

As I said in my reply in the first topic about this at

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x735372#735893

none of this rings true. I found it immediately suspicious that although Drudge had posted this garbage on his website only minutes earlier, he already had a detailed "quote" from a "friend" of Green's saying that Green "deeply regrets the sentiment expressed in the email and the embarrassment it causes ABC News." Quite a reaction, in that short a time.

And this morning there's still nothing about the story from any respectable news source.

I think this was another of Drudge's non-stories, designed to whip the RW morons into a frenzy.

Even if there really is such an email -- an old one, a year and a half old -- it's irrelevant. As Rachel Sklar put it in her Huffington Post blog: "This just in: a voter had opinions about a presidential candidate."

This little non-story was nothing but another part of the RW war on the media. Where's Drudge's outrage about media bias at Fox News, from Ailes on down? Oh, wait -- a brief email sent a year and a half ago (if there really WAS such an email) outweighs Ailes' decades of work as a GOP political operative. Or at least it does in Drudge's looniverse.

2. I think we can safely assume that the email is real.
I kinda think that if it were fake, Mr. Green and/or ABC News would have made some effort to debunk the story.

The reason you haven't heard anything about the story from a "respectable" news source is because it's not news. Rachel Sklar is right: it's irrelevant.

You are correct that this is part of the RW war on the media. The constant repetition and reinforcement of the "liberal media" claim is a deliberate strategy to force the newsmedia to give conservatives better media coverage.

5. The email is not news.
And it's not being treated as news.

It's just feeding the RW need for some 'evidence' of bias in the media.

surface and WHY did it surface when it did?

How did so many seperate instances occur simultaneously in the Media all reinforcing the same GOP talking point about the Media?

7. The media is not making a big deal of this, because they can SMELL
the Rovestink from where they sit. First, the email is two years old, second, it turns up after some enormous beastspouse in West Virginia spouts a memorized question about the MEAN OLE PRESS at a BushCo event....well, anyone would be logical if they assumed this was part of a coordinated campaign.

Finally, ya gotta watch yer back when you crap on the media. Nixon tried it, and we remember how well it worked for him!

9. With "friends" like these...
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 09:56 AM by rocknation
The "apology" didn't pass the smell test with me, either. If the e-mail had been written this week in conjunction with Bush's recent attempts at unscripted speeches, or if the "regrets" has been made by a higher-up at ABC News, then maybe there would be grounds to consider this a story--and maybe the friend would have supplied his or her name! But to use this as evidence of bias when we have Sean Hannity on tape coaching the nurse in the Schiavo case is ridiculous!
