DOZENS of the world’s cities, including London and New York, could be flooded by the end of the century, according to research which suggests that global warming will increase sea levels more rapidly than was previously thought.

The first study to combine computer models of rising temperatures with records of the ancient climate has indicated that sea levels could rise by up to 20ft (6m) by 2100, placing millions of people at risk.

5. They'll have problems of their own....
...they'll have to add another 20 feet to their existing levee system.

9. seems like to me building levees to deal with this would be
like trying to empty a bucket of water with a slotted spoon.

Once people's feet start getting wet when they step out of bed in the morning, I wonder if it will finally seem like this is an important enough issue to give up a little illusionary economic growth? (considering the likely course if we don't do anything at all will be global economic collapse when all the coastal cities flood).

Of course it will be too late at that point....

described SF as the unbearable truths about the immediate past set in a fictionalized future.

7. Whuch is why I have to ask a very unpopular question....
Just how much of an investment should be made to rebuild the infrastructure in NOLA? A good portion of this city already lies below sea level and that situation is only going to get worse. No flames, please -- I ask this respectfully from folks who I'm sure are more versed to answer this question than am I.
