Is Bush the leader of our government, or a right-wing talk show host?
WP: In Charge, Except They're Not
Op-ed by E. J. Dionne Jr.
Friday, March 24, 2006; Page A19

Is President Bush the leader of our government, or is he just a right-wing talk-show host?

The question comes to mind after Bush's news conference this week in which he sounded like someone who has no control over the government he is in charge of. His words were those of a pundit inveighing against the evils of bureaucrats.

"Obviously," said the critic in chief, "there are some times when government bureaucracies haven't responded the way we wanted them to, and like citizens, you know, I don't like that at all." Yes, and if you can't do something about it, who can?

Bush went on: "I mean, I think, for example, of the trailers sitting down in Arkansas. Like many citizens, they're wondering why they're down there, you know. How come we've got 11,000?"...

***

Hold on: The president of the United States runs the "big government" he's attacking. This is mysterious. If Bush's "good, hardworking people" aren't responsible for the problem, the villains of the piece must be alien creatures created by some strange beast called Big Government....

1. He's never really been president, just the embodiment
of right-wing whacko wet dreams.

3. Spot on, Mr. Dionne
Nobody's responsible for any missteps in the Bush administration. If there are 11,000 trailers sitting unused in Arkansas, it certainly can't be anyone's fault in Bushland. But who to blame? Who to blame? Think, think.

4. It's even worse than that. His new role: Innocent Bystander (in chief)
He's the innocent bystander. His administration is the one in which no one has met anyone, more than briefly, if they can recall. No one is in charge, responsible or could even imagine that they were required to do anything besides loot the treasury.

He's an innocent bystander to the civil war those crazy bastards in Iraq are starting.

They are the know-nothings, the biggest pack of clueless nitwits to ever run a great nation into the ground. The breadth of their failures is so great that the cynical must conclude it is intentional, that they are stealing as much as they can, destroying as much of the infrastructure of our government as they can, and then planning on declaring our bankruptcy and defaulting on all "entitlements," including social security.
