We should organize something here so DUers could write the Republican Reps and Senators strongly urging them to vote for whatever onerous immigration bills to come.

If the 'pubs could force a bill through, their party would be absolutely destroyed from Florida to California - maybe nationwide - for decades to come.

There would be rioting in the streets and the blame would fall on the GOP.

This thing today is amazing.

The Latinos in my county have been gearing up for this all month. Our Out Of Iraq march was 75% brown people, with only a smathering of well-known county political pundits present...that one march was a clear example of grassroots feelings in our area. Jump on the bandwagon or be left behind!

I don't agree entirely with it since it is pretty draconian. And it's really stupid. He's making an already illegal activity into an illegal activity. Go figure. With Rs its all in the packaging. There has to be a way to enforce the existing immigration and employment laws. I have no problem with immigration, but there are laws that govern it and they need to be followed.

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- Thousands of immigrant rights supporters filled a major Phoenix thoroughfare Friday morning as they marched toward the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in a rally call for a more humane reform of immigration laws.

"They're here for the American Dream," said Malissa Greer, 29, who joined the crowd estimate by police to be at least 10,000 strong. "God created all of us. He's not a God of the United States, he's a God of the world."

Lawmakers have been considering bills that, among other things, would make it a felony to be illegally in the United States, impose new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border.

The proposals have angered many in the Hispanic community.

Don't know if you remember Fernando Suarez del Solar. He was one of first group of military parents who publically opposed the Iraqi war. He lost his son in early 2003 one of the first casualties. Fernando also joined Cindy Sheehan in Crawford. Anyhow I think its cool that he is doing this 241 mile march to add to the growing "Latino Voices" against this war.

OBJECTIVE: A 241 mile march that aims at ensuring that the Latino voice of opposition to the War is heard loud and clear across the Americas.

WHAT/ WHEN: Fernando Suarez del Solar, Pablo Paredes, Camilo Mejia and Aidan Delgado will lead a coalition of the willing across this 241 mile quest for peace starting in Tijuana, Mexico, going through Marine Corps Depot Camp Pendleton to the Cesar Chavez burial site in La Paz, CA, culminating in The Mission district of San Francisco with a memorial ceremony and blood drive.

The March will begin on 12 March 2006. The coalition of the willing will arrive at La Paz, CA on 22 March 2006 and culminate in San Francisco from 26 March 2006 to 27 March 2006.

WHY: Latinos represent nearly 15% of the US population and 11% of the US military, with many serving in combat or hazardous duty occupations. In addition, an estimated 20% of the fallen service members in the early months of the invasion were Latino. With the continued growth of the Latino population and its vital importance to the future of this country, it is time the Latino community become an active and vocal part of the 60%+ of US citizens that oppose this War. It is also time to show the Latino community that they have a voice and a right to fight for peace and stability. Fernando Suarez Del Solar is committed to self-sacrifice.
