Neighbors, family, friends, volunteer emergency service providers and veterans stood silently Tuesday as the black hearse carried Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas Anderson home. He died March 13 of injuries sustained while serving in Afghanistan.

Edit: He was 21 years old.

for no other reason, being able to honor the soldier, the death by experiencing in pictures. thank you for posting these pictures. we should see and honor each and every person that is brought back to this country in coffin.

5. great photography says more than words

The snowy picture of the burial was on the front page of the newspaper- I saw it when I was in a gas station tonight and came home to look it up and found the rest of the pictures.

This is a small town where everyone knows each other. His father was village president.

4. This brings back memories

both sad and happy. The snow is what caught my mind. It reminds me of my paternal Grandfather's funeral back in 1976. He was a WWII vet and buried with full military honors. Even though it was January in NC, it snowed that day and just somehow made the funeral peaceful and fitting for one's death. I was 11 years old at the time. The gun salute and the playing of Taps, in the snow, was oddly beautiful.
