Cheney COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ORLANDO this afternoon.
This may be a minor gripe, but Dick Cheney's trip to Orlando today to raise money for Congressman Ric Keller's re-election (not official business, mind you) had the central core of downtown Orlando completely shut down for about four hours today. People weren't allowed to leave their buildings during their lunch hours and traffic was horrendous as a result of the detours.

All this so rich Republicans could raise more money. And everyone paid for it.

4. People couldn't leave their buildings?
For four hours? Just how much security does this guy need? Sounds a bit over done if you ask me. What do they do in Washington when he moves around?

8. What a coincidence
They locked down Pittsburgh for several hours this week because of a suspected gun-toting madman.

11. Why people want to be moderate with these jerks is beyond me
They use our taxes to raise funds from corrupt rich white men for corrupt other rich white men.
So they can loot the treasury of the remainder of our taxes.

Where is all the howling from the rightards that we heard for decades about welfare reform B.C.? (B.efore C.linton did their bidding on welfare)

12. Four HOURS? They don't do that in DC
Chimp's favorite hotel to give speeches, etc. is the Capitol Hilton on 16th & L, right across the street from where I work. Bad enough they shut down L street to traffic (but not to pedestrians) while Dumbya is actually entering and exiting the hotel (big tent over the side entrance so thankfully no one gets a glimpse of him). Lots of police cars, secret service types, big SUVs, etc. but people can go out of the building at will.

18. Yeah, but you're talking about Bush
the original poster was talking about the politician who runs the country. I don't think he mentioned Bush.

13. He's a freaking COWARD.
God I am sick of them. You should have been here in NYC for the Republican convention. They took over Manhattan for a week. It was like when a corporation rents out Disneyland for the night. Just like that, only it was Manhattan.

14. Wow! I lived in Orlando for 5 years, so I know how bad that could be.
They do the same thing here in Atlanta (think THREE(3) intersecting Interstate Highways shut down in Downtown Atlanta), but I don't think they ever make people stay in their buildings.

I wonder if they had snipers on the roof-tops?

If there ever was a good indicator as to who is really in charge, and that the ReThuglicans don't want Dim-Son running our government on his own, I'd say this is it.

15. Was Cell Phone Traffic Affected?
Just wondering because I tried to call someone on their cell in Orlando today and it was unusual to get the voicemail.

16. I don't think that's a minor gripe!!
If he were half as important as he thought he was, why, he could get away with shooting people and not reporting it --- oh, wait a minute, that didn't go where I wanted it to go.

I think you should write to the paper - it's ridiculous for him to shut down a city for four hours because he's decided to swoop in and watch FOX news and drink diet Sprite there with all of the lights on.

17. I'm waiting for cities to rebel openly
and I'm sure a few have done so quietly already, saying that they simply can't afford all the overtime it takes to seal off the city and the routes the entourage will take to and from the airport, plus the airport, itself.

Those bastards still haven't paid for the six inch deep gouges they left in the Las Cruces runway in NM from the big transport plane carrying the armored limos.

I think if they're unpopular enough to need this kind of security, it would be wise for them to STAY THE FUCK HOME!
