Latest Republican attack on Democrats -
I heard Kevin Phillips trying this out on the Diane Rhem show today - Bush is the Democrat's fault because if we'd run better candidates and better campaigns, he wouldn't be in the White House now!

Their campaign slogan is: Democrats, stop us or we'll send another retard up to Capital Hill.

Ahm, I have now really seen everything.

4. What Phillips said is obviously true!
Had the Dems supported Gore with the same intensity as the Repukes supported Bush, he would have won in 2000. Had the Dems supported Kerry the way the Repukes supported Bush in 2004 Kerry would be President. And if the Dems don't support their nominee in 2008 with the same ruthlessness of the Repukes will support their nominee in 2008 we will lose again!

8. Yes. We must be a party with an agreed compromise platform.
Rather than a conglomerate of single interest groups insisting on the purity of their position. It has been suicidal. Plus the Dems have to lose their fear of this Republican media and call them on it whenever they lie or mouth the Republican talking points. We also need leaders that do not come from red states and are always looking over their shoulders. First electing Daschle and then replacing him with Reid was stupid. Regardless of the very real merits of these men. We need leaders who do not need to fear their own constituents.

7. I might agree with you except that the Republican attack machine
has been aimed at every Democrat with any sign of life since Richard Nixon set up his Southern Strategy (with Phillip's advice I might add). Just look at the attack ad aimed at Russ Feingold now. The Swift boat strategy was nothing new. Whitewater never hit the newspaper until after the nominating convention. Senator Muskie was the victim of a viscous personal attack back in the New Hampshire primary when he ran. The list goes on and on and on. The Democratic Party never has been well organized, but the Republican party has interfered in our candidate selection over and over the last forty years.

38. Isn't it high time the Dems had an "attack machine"?
Why are we letting the Repukes "interfere in our candidate selection over and over for forty years"? How can you expect the American people to trust a party that allows itself be victimized in this way for that long to protect the security of the country? That is why we are getting nowhere!

16. The point, for Christ's sake, is that if the Dems had put up
someone with a hope in hell of winning, Bush Senior would not have been elected, hence no ready-made base for Bush Junior to use to come in and fuck everything up.

Simple enough explanation?

22. Hey - relax - you just caught the backlash of years of frustration
I grew up with giants, whatever their flaws, John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Bobby Kennedy. Then, when it came time for me to vote, Walter Mondale, Dukakis? Walter Mondale didn't even campaign, he whined. He went around telling everybody that the good times were over and this country would never be great again (at least it sounded that way).

That's why I keep saying over and over - no more settling for second best this time around. We need someone who's running because he's angry at what's going on in this country and he's determined to do something about it.

not a single senator would sign on to the House Black Caucus' challenge to Florida's 2000 election results, then I'd agree with him.

13. Does he mean that if we did a better job of rigging the elections
and appointing our own crooks to the Supreme Court, we'd be in office? Bush is pathetic. His ratings will be in the 20's before it's over.

14. Over the past few years a number of our best leaders have been
assassinated, followed by several fatal accidents that were mos fortunate for the Republicans. Then there was the matter of 9-11, the good luck of all good luck for Bush who was fast going down the "tubes" at the time. Bush continues to profit from our tragedies. Let us hope that another one isn't on the October horizon. You can't suddenly remove several top leaders by death and expect the Party to maintain powerful leadership.

The Wellstone "accident" might not have been an accident and Carnathon crash as well.

19. Yeah, well, I think it's even more subtle than that.
how much traction would Clinton have gotten if Whitewater had come out in April instead of August? I just get the feeling that too many of our primaries were "played" to pick the optimum candidate. It didn't matter whether Bill Clinton won or not; the Republicans had enough innuendo to cripple his Presidency.

26. It would have certainly helped if Clinton had valued America
over a couple of acts of fellatio. I can never forgive him for that insane act of selfishness. The Clinton scandal doubtlessly was among the things that suppressed the vote for Gore who couldn't decide whether to run with or away from Clinton.

29. It's ironic that one man's selfishness took such advantage of
another man's loyalty. On the other hand, it was a replay of 1968. If Humphrey had decided to cut himself free of Johnson's war just a few days sooner...

I can't tell you how many times since then I've watched Democratic candidates start to come from behind in the last desperate days of the race when they throw caution to the winds and start talking like a real Democrat instead of some kind of safe moderate. It's always been too late.

34. Look at Gore's 2004 campaign. An intelligent, articulate and honest
candidate ran a lackluster campaign because he made the mistake of allowing his handlers to tie him up in timidity. In recent years, Gore has matured and turned into an extremely charismatic and dynamic speaker. Too bad he regained himself after the 2004 run.

I recommend that we avoid the DLC strategies. They are perfectly designed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. No Evan Bayh. No Hillary. No Vilsak. And for God's sake,no Biden. And no Kerry.
(attention flamers, that is your cue.)

37. GO GO GO
We joked that the Republicans ran Dole because "It's my turn." I don't want any candidate who doesn't make the suits nervous. Bobby Kennedy met with Caesar Chavez at the end of Chavez' hunger strike in 1968 and decided the next day to run for president. I want someone with that kind of fire. We've been 40 years wandering in the wasteland, and that's long enough!

33. Well, Dr Frankenstein thought he could control his monster, too
Someone asked Kevin Phillips today just what he thought he'd end up with when he came up with the Southern strategy for the Republican party. After some hemming and hawing, Phillips finally said that Nixon already thought up the strategy before he mentioned it to him!
