Is Bird Flu a Clear Hoax to Keep the Fear Going & Martial Law?
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 11:34 AM by Dr. Jones
I just can't help but to wonder...is the bird flu thing a hoax just to keep the fear going and to open the door to martial law?

This flu has mainly been relegated to chickens. Thus far only a handful of animal to human cases have been reported. There have been NO reports of human to human transmission of the bird flu.

This is NOT like the Black Plague! But they're focusing on it so much and putting the fear of death into people, I would not be surprised if the majority of Americans think this IS a Black-Plague-like pestilence where it's coming, millions will die, and there's nothing we can do to stop it.

It's getting so crazy, the news is even talking about how people may get bird flu through contact with bird droppings on picnic benches!

It becomes like terrorism. You never know when it's going to strike. It could be through bird droppings, an infected chicken, or maybe even that guy over there who's had a strange cough the last couple of days. Gee, maybe we need our strong leader to save us. Maybe we DO need military rule and martial law after all. Maybe we DO need military quarantines and more Patriot Act provisions! This is the desired outcome of those who promulgate this kind of fear in order to control the people.

I don't know what's going to happen come fall 2006 when this thing is supposed to come over here, but prepare for the BOATLOAD of fearmongering that is coming our way, that's for damn sure.

5. Maybe they'll bring SARs back?
That was supposed to kill a bunch of us too, wasn't it? does anyone know if all the people that have been reported to have contracted this died? Is it always fatal? If not, have there been any interviews with survirors?

3. I don't think it is a "hoax"
but it certainly could be exploited.

However, that said, millions DID die after WWI and in the mid-50's with a similar flu and from what I have read, "modern" medicine wouldn't do much to save them. Antibiotics, of course, don't work on the primary virus. So it has happened before.

Who knows? I sure don't.

4. just another $$ windfall for the neo-nuts
Of course the Resident and his axis of idiots are over-stating the threat of avian flu. Then America will buy billions of dollars worth of a vaccine that doesn't even work. Then Uncle Donnie Rumfilled will make millions because he owns major stock in the company making the vaccine. Either way, these shit heads win. Rummy gets rich off of a hoax, or millions will die because of a vaccine that doesn't work giving the perfect excuse for martial law.

6. No it is not a hoax...
And it is something to be concerned about...but the media has exploited it and caused unnecessary concern and panic.

7. Anyone remember the "swine flu" scare... ?
... The only thing stopping the widespread use of the swine flu vaccine was human trials... in 1976, the U.S. Army in Fort Ord California was the human trial...

I was given a dose of the vaccine, and later in the evening my body temp went to 105 degrees...

Thought I was a goner for sure, but it didn't fry my brain enough to make me register Republican.

I joke about it now, but it was serious business then. I don't know if the vaccine was ever used, but I would not have given to anyone after what I went through.

8. Sooner or later, there will be a flu pandemic, just as sooner or later
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 12:09 PM by hedgehog
the San Andreas and New Madrid faults will let loose and sooner or later a monster hurricane is going to sweep up the East coast to New York. That's not the problem. The problem is two-fold.

1. This administration has done absolutely no proper planning or staging to handle any of the above situations.

2. Any response should any of these events occur in the next three years will no doubt only exacerbate the situation. For example, any effort to establish a quarantine will disrupt the economy, cause food shortages, feed unnecessary panic, cause hoarding of medical supplies and be totally ineffective in treating or controlling the spread of a new flu variety. What is needed is a plan to assist hospitals which no doubt will be quickly overloaded with patients in distress. Yet it is clear that this group of wing nuts is thinking in terms of quarantine with vague rumbles of tuna fish under the bed and declarations of martial law.

11. I was reading about H5N1 long before it hit the MSM.
I understand your concerns, and no, I'm not ready to hit the panic button. I think this virus is a legitimate concern, though.
