1. The Sorrows of Empire by Chalmers Johnson....
I'm actually reading it now, and haven't finished yet, but it is excellent. Second choice is probably Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins.

12. Definitely my choice
I cried and laughed at the same time. It produced what you call mixed emotions, you know like watching your mother-in-law drive over a cliff in your new car. (Don't jump on me, I personally love my mother-in-law.)

also reading Dick, by John Nichols; highly recommended....really goes after him, and is supposedly the ONLY booklength bio of the real president

love the part in the Risen book where Condi is called the WORST NSA we've ever had, by somebody who worked in the admin

7. "White Like Me" By Tim Wise
I wish there were more people like him in the Democratic party, let alone the rest of the country.

10. There are so many
What are you looking for?

When Presidents Lie by Eric Alterman (From FDR and Yalta to GW, an interesting complex historical look at presidential deception)

Gag Rule - On the Suppression of Dissent and the Stifling of Democracy by Lewis Lapham

One Car Caravan by Walter Shapiro. (Fun insider look at 2004 Dem Candidates)

The New War by John Kerry. (He wrote this book about international crime and terrorism almost 10 years ago)

The Politics of Truth by Joseph Wilson (I thought it would be dry, but it is absolutely not)

Worse than Watergate The Secrect Presidency of GWB by John Dean

Confessions of an Economic Hitman, which I loaned out a month ago and doubt will ever see again. :-(

The KiteRunner by Khaled Hosseini is a must read novel. Don't read it in public if you cry easily.

13. The Assissin's Gate by George Packer
I've read tons of political books, right now I'm reading American Theocracy by Kevin Phillips which is very good. But Assissin's Gate was great. It is everything you want to know about Iraq. How we got there and every misstep we made and why.
