"Fox News, Decaf Help Keep Cheney Happy"
WASHINGTON (AP) - It doesn't take much to make Dick Cheney at home on the road: Diet Sprite, a pot of coffee - both sans caffeine - and a TV tuned to Fox News Channel.

No matter how controversial his policies or how great his political power, the vice president has kept any excitement in his personal life and habits under deep cover (except for that one hunting trip).

So perhaps it isn't surprising that the newly unearthed memo Cheney's office sends to hotels, outlining his "downtime requirements," contains no shockers or even rock star-like indulgences. The memo, obtained by the Web site The Smoking Gun, makes such modest requests as: http://apnews1.iwon.com/article/20060324/D8GI01MG0.html

5. What would the hotels we DUers stay at
say to us if we called ahead and asked for lights to be turned on, tv tuned to a certain channel, cans of our favorite soft drinks ready and waiting? They'd say, "I'm sorry but we are unable to honor those kinds of requests. A porter will see you to your room and can turn on the lights and television when you arrive. As for the soft drinks, there is a servi-bar in the room or a soda machine down the hall. I'm sure you'll find something suitable."

I don't consider Cheney's requests "modest" at all. He's an arrogant SOB acting like an arrogant SOB.
I'd tell him where he could stick those cans of caffeine free diet sprite. If it was my hotel I'd be happy to tell him we have removed FAUX news from our channel lineup, but I'd be happy to turn on free speech tv as a "refreshing change of pace."

8. I've Seen This Several Times Now. I Still Fail To See Why I Should Care.

More I read the article, the more bored I become and the more glaring it is to me that this is a non-event/non-story. I'm just not sure what the relevance of it is, and I'm suprised it wasn't met with reaction from DU of "with all the damn shit this administration is doing the media is reporting on this petty meaningless crap? Who cares if he drinks decaf coffee, write about all of his criminal exploits and PNAC agendas!". That's what I expected the response to this empty story to be, but alas, didn't seem to turn out that way.
