3. Well, seeing as I doubt the lamestream media bothers to check those papers
or listen to latino radio, it was relatively easy for them to sneak these events in!

6. Yes.......
however, you must all keep in mind that the Latino community is very politically conscious. There is no apathy here.

A.N.S.W.E.R.'s banner reads:
Full Rights for Immigrants! Legalization Now!

Gloria La Riva of the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition said, "The racist politicians thought they could step on us with their racist legislation but they have awakened the immigrant giant and they will feel our strength when we stop work."

Preston Wood of A.N.S.W.E.R. LA said, "U.S. corporations are robbing Mexico of its resources and forcing people to come as immigrants for their survival. U.S. Out of Iraq! Justice for all workers!"

Critical to the turnout was the mobilization night and day for over a week of famous Latino radio announcers from every Spanish-language station, including Piolín el Cucuy. The organizers announced a national meeting on April 8 in Dallas, Texas of all the Latino immigrant rights leaders in the country to strategize for a national work stoppage in late May under the banner "A Day Without An Immigrant."

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition believes that the struggle for immigrant rights, workers' rights and the fight against racism at home must be part and parcel of the struggle against war and imperialism. In the coming days and weeks, A.N.S.W.E.R. organizers, volunteers and activists will continue to participate in all levels of the mass movement in defense of immigrant rights and the defeat of the Sensenbrenner Bill. To learn how you can join with other A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition organizers and volunteers, email us at info@internationalanswer.org.

19. Sigh..... There Goes Half The Impact It Could've Had, Unless They Actuall
actually keep their damn traps shut this time and stay on message. Lukcily there are other far better leaders and organizers taking care of this, so hopefully this time answer is just insignifcant, as they should be in these things.

20. Wierd...
First, you post that it couldn't have been organized by ANSWER because it was so effective, then, after learning that it was organized by ANSWER, you criticize them for not being effective enough.

I guess you are just determined to trash ANSWER no matter what they do.

What's the deal? Scared of commies?

The Roman Catholic Church and other religious communities have launched immigrant rights campaigns, with Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony taking a leading role in speaking out against the House bill and calling on his priests to defy its provisions that would make felons of anyone who aided undocumented immigrants. In addition, several cities, including Los Angeles, have passed resolutions against the House legislation and some, such as Maywood, have declared itself a "sanctuary" for undocumented immigrants.

also:

The rally was organized by numerous unions, religious organizations and immigrant rights groups and publicized through Spanish-language media, which encouraged participants to wear white to symbolize peace and bring American flags

7. Maybe they're getting corporate press coverage b/c
corporations love cheap labor? I would imagine that there is a buttload of corporate $ behind the protests as well.

This ain't rocket science.

23. They're getting corporate press coverage because
they put half a million people on the streets in LA, a couple hundred thousand in Chicago, tens of thousands in other cities. This is a huge mobilization.

It doesn't take some corporate conspiracy to figure out why these marches are being covered.

14. Too Bad these Good People
Have not been turning out to protest the Bush Adminiatration, Republicans, the Irag War,the eroding of US citizens' civil liberties. Do they know that non-citizens are not protected by the US constitution? Check with the "detainees" kept in Guantanemo, Cuba.

Immigration is easy to fix, fine the owners of companies that hire illegals. I would guess most of the owners of the corporations and business owners are good bible thinping Republicans who don't mind exploiting Mexican or other foreign labor, pay them far less than they would a US citizen, give them no employment protections, sick leave, family, medical coverage and pensions, let alone breaks, lunches and ovetime pay. These Good Christian and religious of other faiths who own companies have no problem replacing US citizens with illegal foreign workers. Such foreign workers clog up the hospital emergencies rooms, fill up and overcrowd housing driving up prices for all working families and supress wages for all US working citizens.

Now, why would any good, God fearing Republican and many Democrats want to fix that system, its perfect! Of course not for the illegal workers nor American workers.

What a Country!

22. How do you know they haven't been protesting thse other causes?
My local anti war group has many Hispanic members. We are also lobbying and circulating petitions demanding Medicaid reform in this state (the leg. cut it back severely a year ago). The woman who initiated the petition drive is Hispanic and several of our task force members are Hispanic.

18. Well corp media does
have to pay attention to a million (at least) marching in LA, even if they say it is 500,000.
And a few 10's of thousands in other cities. Also the Roman Catholic Bishops have been talking about social justice (doesn't include women as childbearers yet) but poverty and stuff like that.
Jeez I wish it were the Socialists and Anti-war groups who were organizing this and got the same response!
