Here is a personel Dilema for me
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 10:13 AM by Toots
I love Al Gore. I have for a much longer time than his vice presidency or his run for President. He has always been considered an extremely honest man. In fact before the GOP got through with him he had the reputation of being the most honest man in the Senate. The GOP takes their oponent's strongest attribute and hammers away at it mercilessly as they did to Gore on his honesty. Gore has stated flat out he will not run again for President in 2008. I take him at his word as it has always been good. Now here is my Dilema. What if Gore decided to run anyway due to mounting pressure from constituents like us. How does he go back on his word and what does that say about his word if he were to do so? I would lose tremendous respect for him if that were to happen but I can think of no better man to run for the Office. I know deep down that All Politicians LIE but I find that hard to deal with... I am sure it is all a moot point anyway but What if? On edit I have a problem with the spell checker. If I forget to use it before I press post message and realize I have misspelled many words the spell checker no longer functions for me. and I admit my spelling is atrocious.

3. I'm not as much of a fan of
Gore as you are, but I wouldn't lose respect for him if he changed his mind and ran. He is entitled to change his mind, especially if he thinks he could be of benefit to our country.

4. I do not think Gore lied about his not running again
I think WHEN he said that, his family had suffered a lot over the 2000 race. But now not only is he seeing his friends (not constituents since he is not in office) asking him to run. BUT IMHO, it may be coming from his wife and kids. They may have seen the reaction to him by his friends and in their heart know he would be the best person to clean up * mess.

Just IMHO.

5. I think he can run again without guilt
by saying he could never have anticipated what the RW would bring this country to the brink of. We need to DRAFT HIM.

6. Spend your energies fighting the phoney voting machines
Who runs for us is completely irrelevant right now. Even JFK would loose in a landslide were he to come back from the dead. For you to stress out for any candidate is futile and silly.

Fix the machines then worry.

8. Why do you put words into people's mouths like the GOP
Show me where I said I don't know the difference between a LIAR and an honest man? Show me....Do you put your words into the mouths of everyone or just a select few?

12. wow
because you accuse like a gop, they got deleted. i personally can see how the poster came to the conclusion, that you could not see the difference between a liar and a person that changed their mind, personally..... i think that is exactly what your op was saying, my perception anyway. and i am not talking gop. but to see the post deleted, wow.....

9. Well, in the first place that wasn't what he said..
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 10:32 AM by converted_democrat
He said that he had no plans to run, which is completely different from saying that he isn't going to run.. They have been talking about the statement on the MSM for a few days now, and almost all have come to the conclusion that what he said was not ruling out a run altogether, just that as of right now he wasn't planning on it.. I have done lots of things that I didn't "plan" on doing.. There you go, problem solved..

on edit- He wouldn't be going back on his word if he decided to go for a run, he only said that he had no plans to run..

10. let me see, i tell my kids there is no way they are getting a cell phone
ever. period. i am an honest mama, always have een always will be. a couple years goes by, they get older, situation changes and they need a cell phone for safety. but by gosh, way back when i said NO cell phone EVER. what a liar i would be if i changed my tune and allowed a cell phone. how rotten of a disappointment i would be to my children if i were to change my mind because of circumstances, even if it was life threatening for some kind of reason, that the children reallyr eally needed a cell phone

nope,... no cell phone for them, because three years ago, that is what i saw, though what i see today is different, there is no possibility of adjusting and reviewing what is, as opposed to what was

that is silly, if you hold anyone to such a standard. a smart, reasonable, successful person cannot be held to must stick to guns, regardless. shades of grey, my dear

14. Why would you lose respect for him?? He would not be lying.
he said he has "no plans" to run. It was quite clear what he said. He has never said, flat out, no way.. no how.. am I EVER going to run for President. He's not being coy, he's not playing with semantics. At the time he said that, he had "no plans" to run. Now... years ago I went to a psychic. She was amazing.. yet she told me that I would be moving to another state, and moving East, away from the ocean. That was one thing that really didn't ring true. I told her.. I have NO plans to move away from the ocean OR California! I wasn't planning that. Guess what? I had no plans to move away, yet here I am.. living in another state 2 hours away from the ocean. That does not make a liar, it means that I had no plans to move, yet things change.

Why would you paint Al Gore as a liar? It boggles the mind, really.
