First, get a green card in 1 of 3 ways
1)having your employer sponsor you (you have to be able to do something that no american can do) 2)marry an american 3)enter the DOS lottery for 1 of 55,000 slots from countries with low immigration rates
After you have the green card then you can apply to be a "naturalized" citizen...
Naturalization is an administrative procedure in which a person becomes a U.S. citizen after meeting certain substantive and procedural requirements. These requirements include:
* applicant must be 18 years of age * applicant must have five years of continuous residence after becoming a lawful permanent resident (after obtaining a Green Card. * three months of residency in the state or district where the application is filed. * applicant must have good moral character. * applicant must be attached to the principles of the U.S. Constitution. * applicant must have basic English language skills and knowledge of the history and government of the United States of America.
********** note - my sis (we're american)has a female partner who is british. Option number 2 under Green Card is not available to her. Frustrating to say the least.
on edit - option number 3 is not available either - the UK is not one of the countries allowed to participate.
