On Videos from CanOFun and people taking them without asking

I believe that a lot of people can be the media. My motto has been, If you're watching, consider making a video or audio of that, and I especially like doing that with Cspan. I've even, on several occasions, provided explicit instructions on how to do it, it certainly isn't as if I'm trying to be a monopoly on all clips-there are at least 6 good video and audio sites that are out there and I like to think we complement each other. Some of you may know that I spend some time, not just watching some of this stuff, but editing it and trying to find the points that cut out all the hot air in order to get to the point. It takes time to do, I enjoy it, it really is a hobby....

and all I ask is that if you LIKE what I've created, that you LINK to it on your site. Not take it, especially without asking. Nobody is stopping anyone from making their own clips, but I think it's extremely rude to take the fair use clips that I have worked on and put them on another site without so much as a "Hey, do you MIND?"

I have also gone to a lot of work to try to get the clips working for as wide a range of people as possible on different systems, and most of the time, if I see it, I reply back privately to people who have difficulty to point them to a troubleshooting file and 99 percent of the people who had a problem (usually MAC users) have gotten them to work after looking at the instrucs.

So I'm asking someone who, right now, on this board, is going to my site and TAKING my edited video works to STOP.

line is, maybe, one of "honor". I have repeatedly asked a particular person not to do this, I have a request not to do it on CanOFun, and this person argues with me, and does it anyway. I have LINKED to other people's videos on my site sometimes and encourage people to post links to other sites, and I think it's appropriate that when people look at the context of A/V that they see it from the standpoint of the person who did the "fair use" work. For example, I link to OneGoodMove when I see the videos or David Edwards site because both are very good, again, I LINK.

This really, really, really needs to be in big bold type on your main page if it bothers you so much. It ought to be one of the things you can read- easily- when the page loads.

And, in the end, there is quite literally nothing you can do about it anyway. Oh, I suppose you could block the ip address.

Here is a fellow-DUer, who has been taking my stuff without permission for months, even after I asked him to stop and has been harrassing me about it. He followed me around the board at one point, I call that harrassing. In other words, this isn't just some random person in the universe, but someone who posts on DU and is thumbing his nose in my face.

And I want him to STOP... because the issue is, to me, one of consideration, particularly when my home base, so to speak, is DU, and I appreciate what idealistically i believe to be ethical Democratic, considerate views that are being scoffed at by one person... here.

I understand why you are feeling this way. You work hard and have a great site. But I also understand bpilgrim. I mean, aren't you kind of being just a little inconsistant? You are using the work of *another*. Through common law it is ok to do, and ethical, and in fact necessary, I believe. Bpilgrim is doing almost the same thing with your work.

There is nothing illegal and I do not believe anything unethical. Seems to me you both are on the same "team" and need to work out a compromise. Have you tried? Or are you set on him seeing it your way?
