No joke: Heard second-hand of ex-soldier saying U.S. near civil war
A friend of mine who works at a store of a national retail chain was in a conversation with a co-worker about Bush, Iraq, etc. when an eavesdropping customer who was in or recently in the armed forces said, paraphrased, "Bush is cutting all our V.A. benefits, and now I have to pay every time I go to the VA hospital. Because of all the bad things Bush has been doing, the U.S. is headed toward a new civil war, a civil war to get Bush out of power".

I kid you not. This is a friend who would never lie to me about something like this.

5. The concept of Bush out of power
is musical to me, but NOT the concept of civil war.

That didn't go too well last time around. I think the number was 600,000 dead and five times that wounded. A whole generation of men gone. I'd assume that today it would be worse.

war is war. But it is just semantics. Maybe "coup" would be a less frightening word.

38. if you are afraid or unwilling to die
then you will never achieve greatness.

We are a great nation today because so many people were willing to die to make things better. Witness the labor movement, civil rights movement, etc...

People must stop being so goddamn docile.

and the things you are referring to, the civil right movement, labor movement, etc. were certainly dangerous but they were not war. I AM afraid of war. Because I see what war can do.

16. Removing Bush from power would be great
but civil war would not be good news at all. Can you imagine how bad that would get? Right vs left? Rural vs Urban. Etc?

The cost of a civil war would not be worth removing Bush from power.

2. I hope not..
I'm for forcibly removing Bush from office, but civil war is kind of extreme. There are provisions in the Constitution to remove a President if he is no longer able to fulfill his duties. I think, we the people, should push Congress to do that.

11. In case you haven't noticed
We the people, have been pushing Congress, but they don't seem to be listening, at least not at this point in time.

I'm against the use of violence, except as a last resort. The people are speaking now, but the Repukes are doing everything they can to maintain their hold on power, and the Dems are either
not doing anything, or just biding their time.

If the Dems can't take back the Congress this November, then civil war might be the only way to remove the self proclaimed King from power, along with his cronies in the White House, the Congress,
the Supreme Court, and the US military.

The provisions in the Constitution only work if Congress was working for the people, the Repukes stopped working for the people back in 2000, and the Dems it appears don't seem to have a grasp on who they work for, at least some of them don't.

29. If we have another rigged election in November, then
I'm all for the states that are fed-up with the neo-cons in power seceding and forming a new union. This will, of course, lead to civil war. One thing the neo-cons want power for is for all those tax revenues that come from the liberal states. If their money spigot is cut off, they will be pissed.

17. time for the chickens to come home
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 02:54 PM by sweetheart
The chickens are coming home to roost,
with no effort on their opponents behalf,
the repuke submarine has gone down for a boost,
deep buried hunkered under, hiding from the public's ruthless laugh.
Of course we should impeach the surley devious connecticut son,
so we can get the scowling crashcart, heart gone naff,
and his evil henchmen, he can blast them with his shotgun,
given the short time, we can cut their elected numbers by half.

Let the advertizing campaign continue,
every TV channel's expose, a republican corrupt epitaph,
the idiot sovereign bankrupt's his very retinue,
leaving no more neocons around to take the staff.
Why meddle with the republican karmic return,
Dem's got their own policy engines to burn.

22. Yeah but..
the provisions for removing a president from power put the Vice-President in power. If you impeach the Vice-President to then the Speaker of the House becomes president. What if the whole damn lot of them are corrupt and need to go? It doesn't really address how to get rid of the whole damn administration and all their cronies. A coup could do that but the constitutional provision don't.

35. An election would do both
We need to work very hard at getting out the vote this November, and then nominating an electable, populist (think Edwards, Clark, not Hillary, dear God, NO!) for 2008.

Then we take back the country from these nuts.

8. Lot of anger out here. It's underestimated.
The mainstream media doesn't get it, despite their own polls. Talk radio has no monopoly on anger. Most people I know have had it. They have moved from opposition to the war and Bush to downright seething anger and resentment, and the Dems better provide a voice. MSM still focused on the 30% Bushbots while missing the solidifying rest of us. We are at the tipping point.

15. I feel this way, too.
Here we are talking about a possible civil war in Iraq, when we seem to be heading that direction here, as well. Take a look outside at America. People are not happy. Things are not good, despite what we're being told.

There are too many Americans being abused by the Bush Administration, the Republicans, and their poor policies. It won't take much more for everything to get pushed over the edge, in my opinion. The Administration is not responsive to the needs in America, which are considerable, and it's insulting to see millions of dollars go to no-bid corporations for Iraq, while we have so many pressing issues here.

Bush is rich - if he wants a war, let HIM pay for it. He can dip into the ill-gotten coffers of The Carlyle Group and pay for it that way.

No child left behind? Forget that, that's minor.

AMERICA HAS BEEN LEFT BEHIND!

Longer Bush remains in power, the worse the end will be for he and his conspirators.

Even if Bush is allowed to leave office without prosecution, I bet there will be numerous groups dedicated to applying some sort of 'people's justice' ... unless he finishes building his rocketship to Mars. :)

I think you're right about Bush being harrassed after he's out of office. He won't be able to ever escape the damage he's done to our nation.

It might even get to a point where he pleads to be taken to the Hague, for his own safety.

The hatred, the bitterness, the divisiveness exists.

It remains to be seen when and if these feelings manifest in a behavioral way.

He's said so time and again. He doesn't care what the people think, he doesn't care what Congress thinks, he doesn't care what the world thinks. He considers himself above the law and above the Constitution. IOW, it's impossible to sway The Emperor Bush on any issue. We have three more years of this shit to go, folks, and it looks like there's no will in Congress to impeach this madman.

43. VA Benefits
http://www.marinetimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-782283.php

One of my Senators has been front and center on VA benefits, and not out of convenience. It's truly a heartfelt conviction on her part, that we "support the troops" in every sense, not just with bumper stickers and flag decals. There really are politicians who walk the talk, they're not all like republicans.

Bill Clinton was a major force behind upgrading VA Hospitals, bringing them into the 21st century. Veterans can now go into any VA hospital nationwide and doctors on staff can access the patients medical file and history via networked databases. Beats anything going on in the private sector by a long shot.

Just curious how many veterans vote Democratic..........do they support those who really support the troops, or do they support those who pretend to support the troops?
