Video of the Carlyle Group - DOWNLOADABLE! Burn it to DVD & hold viewings!
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 03:42 PM by helderheid
http://movies01.archive.org/opensource_movies/newsreal/indybay/uploads/carlyle_group.rm

The language is Dutch for the 1st couple minutes, then English. The documentary was aired on Dutch public television in may 2003.

Translation of the first one minute forty seven seconds of this program.

"The war in Iraq is over. The destruction is still smoking, but the first bulldozers are pulling in to the country. This has unleashed fierce competition for contracts, which are mainly awarded to American (ed: U.S.) companies.

What is remarkable about these companies, is that they have people on their payroll from American politics and the military. Is this a conflict of interest, or is this the new global way of doing business?

One of the companies that operates in this manner is the Carlyle Group."

On their payroll are people like : George Bush (Sr.), James Baker III and old premier John Major.

The Carlyle Group is a private investment bank which doesn't come to the publics attention very often but it is one of the biggest American (ed: USA) investors of the defense industry, telecom, property and financial services.

It's approximately 48 minutes long - please keep kicked since this is such a big file!

Democrat Implies Sept. 11 Administration Plot

By Juliet Eilperin
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, April 12, 2002; Page A16

Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) is calling for an investigation into whether President Bush and other government officials had advance notice of terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 but did nothing to prevent them. She added that "persons close to this administration are poised to make huge profits off America's new war."

In a recent interview with a Berkeley, Calif., radio station, McKinney said: "We know there were numerous warnings of the events to come on September 11th. . . . What did this administration know and when did it know it, about the events of September 11th? Who else knew, and why did they not warn the innocent people of New York who were needlessly murdered? . . . What do they have to hide?"

14. You're probably talking about the websites that have video stuff that
you can watch but leaves no trace in your temporary folder to copy?

Yeah, I hate that. Especially if you're on dial-up, you don't want to wait for the download that evaporates on your computer every time.

I'm sure there are programs out there that will capture these files and convert them, but so far the people who know aren't real forthcoming about it.

I work at a college with a computer/multi-media dept. and I'll see if I can find out anything. I want to know how to do it, if possible too.

BTW, one simple way to copy stuff that often works is to pay attention to the file type as it downloads-- .wmv or .qt, say, and then search your hard drive for all files with that file type (as in *.wmv). Once you find where the file has been stored, you can drag and drop it in the folder you want and rename it so you can find it again.

But a lot of files are apparently encoded precisely so you CAN'T do this. That's the problem.

15. actually I am just looking to be able to burn it on DVD and have it
play in a DVD - I assume I would need to convert the file to a format DVDs can read before I do that so I am looking for a program that would do that.

17. I've never encountered that
what I HAVE seen is video that has its name and extensions altered. This is how I managed to save off a bunch of quicktime movies I "had to" have QuickTime Pro to save to my HD.

Everything your browser sees goes into its cache; audio, video, images, and HTML. I think not even Flash animations are exempt. The key is to know the approximate file size and time of viewing. If you know or can approximate those two pieces of information, you should be able to recover video from your cache.

The problem is, the files won't necessarily be named anything comprehensible. For example, a video might be named on the site "this_video_cannot_be_saved.wmv". In your browser cache, however, it might have the name xpq9764f. This is a security feature, as items in the cache may contain malicious code.

If you regularly clear the cache, the item you want to recover may not be there, but if it was something you downloaded- even an executable, if you didn't set a max size for individual files- it should be there somewhere.

Usually, it's too frustrating to bother with- except for the things you're talking about, that aren't "supposed" to be able to be saved. They only want you to think you can't. The only sort of exception I can think of is if the video or audio is loaded into something like an activeX app, Java app, or some other proprietary player. Those files often don't cache, because the player was designed to not do it at all.

22. Okay, I got a tough nut for you to try to crack. It's the Al Gore
highlights speech.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/01/16.html

Scroll down the page. Keep going past the first Al Gore story until you get to the .wmv and the .qt video links.

See if you can recover them so that you can store them, and tell me how you did it if you're successful.

I couldn't do it, heh . . .

10. Our local progressive caucus is talking about showing such films - I
emailed the producers of this one to buy a copy but they said because of certain rights, this particular episode couldn't be sold. I was so elated to find a copy to download, not just stream!!

20. Let it not be forgot: ex-staffer of CARTER, David RUBENSTEIN
is one of the co-founders. There were plenty of vipers at CARTER's breast: RUBENSTEIN, Pat CADDELL, and Tweety. CADDELL's only victory was CARTER's win. He has parlayed that into a career of steering political and commercial campaigns to losing (the New Coke). He, like Tweety, has also made it de riguer to bash Dems.
