The money looks REAL good. Service industry jobs that pay $50,000 year here will get you $150K or more for a tour in Iraq. The KBR guys I spoke to when I was there were happy as clams to have the work and accepted the danger as the primary reason they were getting paid so much.
That having been said, KBR hung a lot of these poor schmoes out to dry, directing them to work in areas that were absolutely lethal. When you hear about "several hundred" contractors having died in Iraq, the largest single category is KBR people, mostly truck drivers.
For a variety of reasons, I wouldn't advise ANYONE to take a job with Halliburton or any of its subsidiaries (and I have been offered same) whether it be overseas or in the States.
