So on one hand, knowledge can also be bliss.
A famous motivational speaker wrote a book, "How to Stop Worrying and Be Happy." (Dale Carnegie--not the Steel Tycoon) This is how knowledge can free you of unnatural fears and allow you to be happy. Look at how superstition causes people to be afraid and miss out on the many joys life has to offer.
The idea is that people should analyze the worries that are preventing themselves from being happy. One phrase: What's the worst that can happen? When you accept the worst, you realize that you shouldn't worry so much. Once freed from your worries you might even be able to better protect yourself.
He also talks about the "law of averages." Take terrorist attacks. Chances are, you aren't going to be the victim of a terrorist attack. If we had better security AND warnings before 9/11 that terrorist attack might have even been stopped. Instead America's irrational fear has put us deeper in debt and in the Baghdad quagmire. I certainly never thought America would continue to suffer 4.5 years later. That wasn't the case after Pearl Harbor.
Another thing is "don't cry over spilled milk" or accept the inevitable. There are things we all worry about such as high gas prices or the possibility that there will be food shortages. For the most part, we can't do much about them although we can be wise in our consumption. Otherwise, why worry about them. Of course we could complain, but then people will think we're unhappy.
In a way, our biggest woe is bush and his crony party being in charge. There will be opportunities for this to change and we'll all do our best. On the bright side is the phrase, "This too shall pass." Many bad things took centuries to pass, but they did end. In the twenty-first century, things are a little faster. New TV shows are on once before being pulled. And bush certainly is worse than a bad TV show. His days are most definitely numbered. The only real question is how disgraceful his exit will be.
