"Everyone has a Right to Their Own Opinion, However......
Edited on Sun Mar-26-06 08:11 PM by louis c
no one has a right to their own facts."

That's the line I used talking to two Bush apologists today.

These folks should know better, but they still insist that Iraq had connections with 9/11.

I told them that no Iraqis were hijackers, no hijacker stopped in Iraq before coming to the US, no money was traced back to Iraq and no contact was made by bin Laden to Saddam.

Their response "how do you know that?". My response "because I read. Further, no one can prove a negative so let's work with the facts we know. The hijackers came from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan. No al Queda leaders or hijackers came from Iraq. Their route to America was through Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Pakistan. The money was traced back to Saudi Arabia and the UAE." One of my antagonists said "Ya, but Iraq was connected to the Taliban." Of course I replied, "Are you just making shit up as we go along? Only three countries recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government in Afghanistan. They were Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Pakistan. By the way, all three were and are US allies. Iraq never had any dealings what-so-ever with the Taliban."

Then, I tried to disengage from this discussion, since I am getting tired of educating people before convincing them, especially since they really don't want to know the facts in the first place. One of them said to me "You think you know it all, but it's just your opinion. We have a different opinion, that's all."

To which, I replied. "everyone has a right to their own opinion, however no one has a right to their own facts."

6. I feel your pain my brother
A guy I work with (that I post about alot) heard about a book by a former high-ranking Christian Iraqi official who published a book about 2 years ago that claims all the WMDs were shipped out to syria prior to the invasion.

He totes this thing around like infallible scripture and uses it to try and quash me whenever I say there were no WMD's in Iraq and haven't been since the early 90s. My point to him is, if this book has the "real" story, why aren't the neo-cons singing it's praises high and low. Why is it he heard about it once a couple of months ago and no one else is talking about it? He, of course, has no answer.

To be honest, I have a hard time believing that a Christian made it into Saddam's cabinet of advisers. Even if I give the benefit of a doubt there, considering the recent reports that Iraq fabricated its OWN intelligence to try and convince the west they had WMDs that they did not (I have some doubts about this report as well) it seems very probable that this guy was being given bad information.

When the repugs I know start going off on the same old lies, I just let them talk then ask them how the sand tastes.

9. If Saddam had WMD's , what the fu*k was he waiting for to use them?
He wasn't hiding cocaine from the DEA.

If he had them and the Americans were coming, I can't imagine it going like this.

Iraqi Army Field General; "Saddam, the American army is amassing for an invasion within two months. Quick, let's get all our weapons and ship them off or destroy them before they find them."

Is the more likely scenario that they would have used them against our soldiers if they had them. What the f*ck good are they in Syria with him in some spider hole.

Come on America, let's use our common sense here.

12. Refer them to Condi's remarks YESTERDAY on Meet the Press.
She said explicitly that Saddam was not involved in 9/11. I'm sure you can get a transcript soon.

in order to stand their ground in argument. i have more people resort to "it is your opinion" when history points out a fact. just blows me away. now tat i recognize it before even starting i state the is a wrod "fact" that has a definition. fact..... then i list out facts. these arent opinion, they are documented, a reality
