What is the point of voting

if you only vote your religious convictions? I spoke to a very nice gal that works at my supermarket while petitioning yesterday. We are a very liberal (gay) area in d/t Denver. She beats the same drum ( admits she is NOT political) and thinks Bush is a good man and supports him because of the same social issues we have heard 1000 times.Has absolutely NO clue what is going on..and doesn't care to find out.

1. tell her she's going to hell for supporting shrub.

there's not much hope of reaching her if you don't speak her language.

if that doesn't work, just laugh in her face for being such a idiot as to be duped by shrub and the gang. humiliation won't win you too many friends among republicans, but it might sway some votes. lord knows that trick has worked for the banana republicans.

2. I vote my religious convictions...

concerning marriage equality, protecting womens rights and civil rights, taking care of the environment, having a federal budget which takes care of basic human needs, legislators who have personal integrity, the avoidance of war, and responsibilty towards the next generation.

Edit: Her convictions aren't wrong because they're religious. They're just wrong! Unfortunately one issue voters and people who aren't very bright get to vote along with the rest of us.

I think the key is to re-frame the issues in their terms... My suggestion on the homosexual marriage issue- while they call constitutional limitations on marriage a "defense of marriage" I would talk instead about how there is no "sanctity" in bigotry and denying people civil rights is a form of bigotry, which is "sin"...
