The Hillary Juggernaut
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 01:48 AM by raysr
"Opponents will face in Hillary the most formidable presidential front-runner in modern political history.
(And, yes, I am counting George W. Bush in 2000.) Here are 10 reasons why she will be a daunting foe:

1) Universal name recognition.

2) Her capacity to raise $100 million like that. (snaps fingers)

3) The ability to dominate the free media, tracked by 100 reporters.

4) Her emotional support from a significant percentage of women voters out to make history.

5) Nostalgia for Bill Clinton's peace and prosperity.

6) Continuing Democratic resentment over impeachment. (That's hueueueuge.)

7) Hillary's over-cautious political style that avoids risk and mistakes.

8) The most potent candidate surrogate in political history - her husband.

9) The ability of the Clinton name and legacy to attract minority voters.

10) At least a half-dozen candidates who will divide the anti-Hillary Democrats.
She could win major primaries with 35 percent of the vote."

1. I suspect one has to be American to realize how hopeless Hillary is.
Most of the items on that list are tied reasons she would lose in the general election. The other items might get her victory in the primaries. But not victory in November. We have better candidates.

2. As long as she supports this war she will not win!!!!
If she doesnt take a stand NOW and bring the troops home she doesnt have a chance in hell to win!!!

12. As one of the 'people elsewhere'
I think you should give a woman a chance after this most awful man! And Bill comes with her!!!

15. Never.
Hillary has done one thing after another that I find deeply repugnant, from backing the war and flag desecration legislation to backing burning tires in a plant in upstate NY. On issues big and small I disagree with her. And I don't want Bill back. Personally, I think that bush clinton bush clinton would be obscene and an affront to democracy.

3. She'll have to win the primaries with less than 35 percent to get the
nomination. I don't see how she's going to touch 35 percent once her competitors make themselves known and mitigate her name-familiarity advantage.

If Al Gore ran against her, she probably wouldn't win a single primary.

1. That's not always a good thing.

6. I don't think revenge motivation is a good way to get people to the polls.

7. Over cautious can and does also bite you in the ass. If you never distinguish yourself, never go out on a limb, most people have no reason to vote for you.

10. I doubt that. She'd have to muster a larger positive base than that to really get ahead, otherwise a consensus number two candidate would emerge.

6. The more politically conscious I become,
the less I like Hillary. Even if she's the going away victor by the time of Illinois primaries (the usual) I will not vote for her. I am so convinced she has developed into nothing more than warmed over rep. lite, there's no charm left.

8. My 2 cents
I think it's way too early to speculate who our candidate will be
in 2008. Foregone conclusions have a way of dissipating before our
very eyes. In November of 2003, the only name on everybody's lips,
as well as the covers of Time and Newsweek, was Howard Dean. The
fact that the "Swift Boat Vets" turned up out of the middle of nowhere
only in 2004, after being apparently kept in cold storage for 30 years,
indicates that even Karl Rove didn't anticipate running against Kerry
until after Iowa, 2004.

The sudden revival talk about Al Gore may be the start of something big
or it may be the last gasp of the anyone-but-Hillary movement. We have
been down this road enough to know that it is not the time to wring our
hands over something that won't be decided for some 22-24 months.

Hillary still has time to stake out forceful position on things, Al Gore
still has time to say he's not interested (or that he is).

Let's let some water flow under the bridge before we start burning it.

13. Of these things I am cognizant. Point well taken.

But in the mystery of protective coloration, some things stand out.
I find it telling that the whacko-ist republican knows and demonstrates that he must soften his "crazy conservative" stance and start advocating some very democratic sounding positions in order to get re-elected. Hillary seems to think she needs to look more like McCain to retain her seat.

I find this inordinately offensive. Especially in her case, should she later decide to run for the presidency, no amount of camouflage or actual positioning is going to earn her any significant support from republicans: their visceral hatred is almost palpable.
Any republican hater who suddenly starts looking or sounding reasonable will earn my instant suspicion. I have been beaten up, before, because I trusted an untrustable, flying false colors.

I expect and, IMO, what is sorely needed in today's wounded, barely breathing America, is a clear stance, unmistakable, no apologies declaration of position, backed up by clear thinking and principles.

I do not want, nor will I support murky, humma, humma please elect me: I need a job, all things for all people crap that so undistinguishes many of our so-called leaders.

11. What makes you think that, given her votes in the Senate?
What about voting for unfunded bill after unfunded bill makes you think she'd be a good administrator?

And what is it about the times we're living in that would make "a good administrator" good enough?

We need another FDR, not another Gerald Ford.

16. There IS no juggernaut,
just the corporate media and the rnc trying to shove a failed candidate down our throats. They know its the only plausible way they can steal their way into the WH again.
