And war on Easter begins in St. Paul, Mn
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 06:49 AM by liberal N proud
Easter Bunny removed from St. Paul City Hall

ST. PAUL, Minn. The Easter Bunny has been banished from City Hall in St. Paul, Minnesota.

A toy rabbit, pastel-colored eggs and a sign with the words "Happy Easter" were removed from the lobby of the City Council offices, because of concerns they might offend non-Christians.

A council secretary had put up the decorations. They were not bought with city money.

St. Paul's human rights director, Tyrone Terrill, asked that the decorations be removed, saying they could be offensive to non-Christians.

But City Council member Dave Thune (thoon) says removing the decorations went too far -- and he wonders why they can't celebrate spring with "bunnies and fake grass."

3. This reminds me
of a situation here in the UK. A couple of years ago the local council where I live decided that Xmas should be downplayed because it was too Christian !

5. Silly and Myopic

So the Human Right Director is afraid the an utterly non-christian symbol like the Easter Bunny would offend Non-Christians.

As if the name of your town is not offensive enough to Non-Christians? This is myopia run amok!

Edited for typo: Coffee is still brewing.

7. Yeah, but some of the chocolate ones are good
:)

I mean, some company came out with a chocolate cross a couple of years ago and it's just not the same thing.

16. Sounds delicious, I hope the nails are liquorice.
I'm afraid that the picture of happy children innocently munching on chocolate replicas of Jesus nailed to the cross tickles my black sense of humour more than it should.

11. Oh, this is so EMBARRASSING - I know there are other issues........
.....our leaders should be focusing on.:eyes: I won't use up the band-with listing all the issues our city leaders could focus on instead of this but take my word for it, the list is lengthy.:banghead:

BTW, who forgot to tell these city leaders that the Easter Holiday itself IS NOT a Christian Holiday anyway.:dunce: Many ages ago government leaders decided if they couldn't beat them they would join them. In the process they joined a Christian observance with a pagan observance and:wow: we had Easter.:bounce:

13. If this weren't so lame it would be funny
Christians feel persecuted because they cannot foist on the general public one of their holidays. And at this, one rife with pagan trappings--fertility symbols mostly. Hell the date of the holiday is even figured by means hardly Christian...first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox? Look that one up in your NKJV. Good luck.

And then the way the city is handling it seems strange. Its like this director is trying to force an issue, much like the abortion laws are trying to force the issue back to the Supremes for Re-Christianization.

While millions of Americans are homeless, while millions of people around the world are suffering at the hands of American greed, while we destroy the planet with our environmental Manifest Destiny, millions of eyes turn to the tyrrants of St. Paul and their cruel snuffing out of a fertility symbol bearing brightly colored fertility symbols. At least we know what is really important. :eyes:

17. I wonder how the Righties would have reacted
to a dead chicken (Satanism, presumabley) displayed,

or maybe the "crescent moon" of Islam . . .

Or some symbol of the Wiccans . . .

How about how "Spring Break" evolved from Easter Break? Well, Spring Break is a fertility rite, which the eggs and the bunny symbolize, right?

25. Right thing to do, wrong reason.
The city shouldn't be putting out religious messages.

Whether anyone finds it offensive or not shouldn't be the deciding factor.
