Antonin Scalia: The barbarian on the supreme court.

Scalia's son was in Iraq, therefore, to his way of thinking, no one in Guantanamo is entitled to a trial.

Speaking in front of a European audience, he said, "If (the prisoner) was captured by my army on a battlefield, (Guantanamo) is where he belongs. I had a son on that battlefield and they were shooting at my son and I'm not about to give this man who was captured in a war a full jury trial."

He went on to tell the European audience he was "astounded" at their "hypocrisy."

Talk about hypocrisy. This is about a case coming before the supreme court and since Scalia's son having been in Iraq is influencing his opinion, he should recuse himself. It's been shown time and again that most prisoners in Guantanamo were people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, or innocent people turned in by someone with a grudge.

If foreigners held all Americans to Scalia's so-called standards, we'd be screaming our heads off. I hope to someday see Scalia in the Hague along with Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al. receiving a trial he would deny others.

Torturing the enemy (any enemy) only makes them fight harder and more savagely. If prisoners are treated humanly, the enemy can not illicit righteous outrage and spur their followers to further violence. By torturing prisoners, we declare that our way of life, our system of justice, is a front for power and control.

Torture only motivates our enemy and distances our allies.

1) That person has committed a crime under our laws and is being held for trial, or has been convicted in an open court in a trial by a jury.

2) That person participated in a war against our armed forces, and must be treated as a Prisoner Of War under the Geneva Conventions and the UN Charter.

There is no third option.

Its appalling that a US Supreme Court Justice fails to understand the law. Its appalling that he should toe the party line AGAINST the Constitution.

Now, my daughter was hit by a car while jogging in Dublin a few weeks ago. (No, she wasn't seriously hurt--just scraped up.) The more I think about it, the more I think we should invade Ireland. I mean, I really love my daughter, and some Irish guy hit her with a car! She wasn't even shooting at him, as Scalia's son probably was shooting at some Iraqis, and she hadn't fought a war with him, as Bush's dad had with Hsusein. She was just innocently jogging, so there was even less justification for hitting her with a car.

We need to strike Ireland premptively, so we can fight careless Irish drivers over there rather than over here, where even more innocent American joggers could be hit by Irish drivers.
