just filled up this morning at $2.45 :eyes:

talking with the gas station owner about prices. he told me it was a good thing i was filling up this week instead of next. says next week all the companies are going to gas with 10% Ethanol. he says you would THINK that would make gas cheaper but his supplier has told him it will be selling for $3.00/gallon MINIMUM!

he says as summer gets here the sky will be the limit.

We are very loyal when it comes to money being spent in our community.. All of our gas is bought from one local company, and all of the gas for my business (I have a small fleet of vehicles) is bought from this company too.. I'm really friendly with the guy, and we talk about politics all the time.. (I had thought that gas was going to go to 5.00 a gallon after Katrina, and he said it wouldn't. We sparred over it occasionally, because he said if it was going to happen he would've known about it first..) So, anyway the other day he tells my SO, tell your women she was right, gas is going to 5.00 a gallon, she was only off by a year.. Then he goes on to tell my SO that his distributor rep had come by to tell him that gas would go to 5.00 a gallon by this summer, and that he needed to implement security changes to the building now because they didn't know how the general population would react to prices.. They suggested fencing in the property, bars on the windows, and so forth.. When he asked the rep why the cost was going to go up so dramatically, the rep declined to answer saying only that he didn't know why it was going to happen, but that it was going happen..

on edit- It's already 2.75 a gallon here..

6. Hear on NPR today....

that due to some legislation passing which changed the contents of gasoline, that the price will be going up...they said the new legislation required new additives to be put into the gasoline but didnt' mention what the additives were.

Additionally, a spokesperson mentioned that it was unusually for 3 additives to be required to be put into gasoline at once, normally they are spaced out to not cause a drastic increase in price.

If you aren't buying your gas at Arco, you're getting ripped off. I marvel at the shell station next door that has gas for $2.57, and people are actually buying it! I guess it's the credit cards for the station. Arco is always at least 10 cents cheaper than everyone else.

My '06 Kia Rio5 is still breaking in, but I hope to get it up close to its EPA 29/38 city/hwy ratings once it does. I'm around 28-29 in mixed semi-city driving at the moment. Glad we both have small cars (and I drive my wife in to work most mornings). Ah well, I can at least enjoy some Schadenfreude at the expense of Humjob owners. :D

17. Getting the new tires back on the scooter just in time

I ride a Bajaj scooter for my 52 mile round trip commute. It gets around 100 mpg, and tops out at 55-60 mph. Love my little bike, and I recommend it for anybody who is interested in saving money. It is the No. 1 selling scooter in the world, and has been building quality products for decades. You will have to get a motorcycle plate and permit for your license in most states, since it's a 150cc engine, but that is usually not that tough to do. Also, for those of you with older vehicles that haven't run on ten percent ethanol before, a word of advice. Ethanol is a corrosive, and when you run it through your fuel lines, it will clean them out thoroughly. When you start filling up with a ten percent ethanol blend, change out your fuel filter once a month for three months, otherwise it is going to get clogged up and you will lose power and gas mileage.

(just kidding) - I nearly got a scooter, but husband always wanted a Harley, and I couldn't get him on 2 wheels to save $$$ unless it said Harley on the side. And there was NO FREAKING WAY he was getting a Harley while I got a stinkin' scoooter.
So now we both ride everywhere. Save a ton of $$$ and have permanent grins that didn't seem to be there when we drove cages everywhere.

Unless the bike was at least forty years old. Sorry, but the new Harleys have too many gizmos, gadgets and electronics that break down too often. I don't want to spend the weekends working on my bike, I want to ride it.

Older, pre AMF Harleys are tough, reliable bikes that will take a lot of punishment and still keep going.

Biggest trouble with both categories of Harleys is that they are too damned expensive. Sure, I like the rumble and thunder, but I'm not shelling out that kind of money to get it. The whole point is to save money in the long run. I paid $2800 for my scooter, and it will have paid for itself within a couple of years. With a Harley, it would take fifteen years or more to realize such a savings, and by then the Harley might be dead.

But I'm glad that you're enjoying your bikes. I think anytime, on any bike, you are going to have the good ol' perma-grin. I think it is inherent to riding.

We had the fuel injectors in the Sebring flushed and it runs like new. But we paid $75 (mechanic is a good friend.) Now it looks like everyone will get cleaner fuel lines for free.

You are so right to encourage folks to keep those cars running right, now more than ever.

Get the oil changed every few thousand miles, keep the fuel and air filters clean, check the tires and rotate regularly. (Just had my CV joints replaced so hopefully I won't go through so many tires zooming up and down the mountain :) ).

These little steps help save gas in the short run and will help your car go for many more miles in the long run

On the misery of others, and while such gas pricing hikes will indeed yield some nice dividends, it is being done so on the backs of those least able to afford it, and the blood of our soldiers and innocents across the world. Sorry, but I don't like my investment dollars drenched in blood, thank you very much.

Rather that investing in a dying technology, start investing in alternative energy companies. With the growth of these companies due to high oil prices, you should get a nice return on your investments, and the dollars you make will be green, rather than red with the blood of innocents.

We bought a Prius and started carpooling in earnest after Katrina. We're actually saving money on fuel these days. Fill up every 10 days or so for $20. And we almost never drive without the other in the car heading somewhere else. Sweet.

If you aren't already using ethanol, you'll want to change out those fuel filters pretty often during the first 2-3 months of the change over (new filter every 3-4 weeks). The blend pull sediment and whatnot from your existing gas lines, mucking up your filter pretty quick.
