Civil War in the GOP?
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 09:28 AM by ck4829
I've created small dossiers on the various factions in the Republican Party.

We need to do more than just win, we need make sure the Loonies in the GOP never make a comeback.

We need to find ways to exploit the wants and hates of them, I was thinking that it might be a good thing if we can find allies in the GOP, the so called "RINO's" and help them turn the GOP to the Left.

1. Good start but you need "talking points" in each catagory............
.....that can be repeated every time someone in these groups bring an issue up. Something like, "Such and such is another way of saying they hate average Americans", or "Such and such shows total contempt for children, disabled, etc".

4. They always seem to come back
Throughout history the authoritarian right's political influence has waxed and waned. I don't know if they can ever be permanently defeated, but I'd sure like to see them go into retreat for a few decades.

5. Ok...now take the immigration issue:
GOP is split on it:

The Xenophobic types and the jingoists want detainment/deportment/big wall/minutemen.

Cheap labor conservatives w/ corporate interests just want the issue to go away.

of course, Bush has made a mistake in trying to appeal to both sides of the split. We should simply characterize it as a half-baked plan that neither controls the immigration problem, nor creates decent jobs for Americans.

This would be an instance where it would be wise for Democrats to just step back & occasionally stoke the fire, and watch the GOP implode on this issue. I think it was originally brought to the forefront as a mid-term "wedge" issue, thinking the Dems will come up with criticism or a counterproposal to Sensenbrenner's crappy plan that will motivate the xenophobic/racist/jingoist wing of the GOP. But they're so worried about upsetting their corporate interests, they're talking out of both sides of their mouths.

Meanwhile, we're all realizing that the split on immigration crosses party lines. Dems are split on it, too - just for different reasons. So it seems it's driven a wedge, but within parties instead of between them.
