4. Don't be too sure.. I've heard a rumor or three of those that..
.. are being considered (these will basically be rebroadcast of OTA stations) and some from the Northwest/Northeast might SUPRISE a lot of folks...

8. Thanks for the update
I appreciate the info. Also, I noticed XM is finally promoting the AAR exclusive on their website. Good for them.

The regional stations are an intriging idea, although the NAB might get cranky. Any chance one of the rumors might be Colin McEnroe (of the recent Joementum interview) for the Northeast?

11. The NAB can stick it where the sun don't shine...
Their bitch is 'locally targeted, locally delivered' programming (IN THEORY, XM could have regional, local channels over the ground repeaters so that you could only get them in that area), and the NAB is even bitching about the Traffic/Weather channels that XM has (that everyone can get).. this is a sharp stick in the eye to the NAB (one of the few things I'll give CC an 'attaboy' for).

as for the other.. no comment.

22. In theory, yeah, probably
Although I've found the ground repeaters on Sirius to be of questionable reception in my area. The satellite signal has been so strong here that I don't usually consider the repeater reception other than fleeting curiosity. But if the repeaters are going to be used for exclusive content (and marketed as such), I suspect the overall power of the repeaters will need to go way up.

But it's a great theory, and possibly could be used for emulating the initial marketing of cable, that being better reception of locals (no more AM sound), in addition to the other advantages of satellite. In this manner, the radio houses like CC and Infinity could create packages of local programming for the satellites. Do you think these regionals might be a step in that direction, thus endearing XM to CC, Infinity, Cox, etc. and disregarding the NAB?

No Comment?...oh, you're killing me! ;)

there is also only one real right wing channel. Sure there's also fox and cnn and msnbc, but there are really only 2 politics based channels, Ameriright and Air America. Also - XMPR is on the dial as well if you're a fan fo public radio.

15. FYI....
Family Talk PAYS to be on XM.. let them waste their money and don't tune in.

America Right - well, what do you expect

Extreme - huh??? You must never listen to the Philips Phile and Left Jab...

Fox & Fox - phfft... those are deleted from my receivers

and your comment of "don't imagine" tells me you never listened to the music channels.. they have this thing called MUSIC, not talk....

20. Then you haven't heard it all...
if you go to xmradio.com you can get a free three day trial of the music channels listening online (only talk is O&A and XMPR because of rights issues)... listen more completely before you judge

I want to be able to easly switch to the other liberal channel. That is why I used to have, and also why I cancelled Sirius.

23. what are you saying? they're leaving Sirius?
and how come the Sirius signal just goes away for HOURS at a time around 5AM and 9PM CST?

this is just about like clockwork? it's OK in my car, but not at home.

25. No, those mentioned are not leaving Sirius (AFAIK), but they..
do NOT have exclusive contract with Sirius (not even the Young Turks who ARE on OTA staions also)

as to the crummy Sirius signal, it's a function of their weird-ass technology.

XM (and Dish and DTV and just about every other sat service uses GeoSync sats that are (effectively)in a STATIONARY position over the horizon (XM has four, two on the east (ROCK and ROLL) and two on the west (RHYTHM and BLUES) so that you should ALWAYS be able to 'see' one of them...

SIRIUS on the other hand, uses a whacked out 'swarm' of sats that have to constantly pass the signal around and your ability to 'see' them is limited..

here's a picture that's worth a 1000 words (it's a little dated, at the time XM only had 2 birds up). You see XM-1 and XM-2 parked over the equator and SIRIUS-1,2 and 3 playing chinese fire-drill.

28. thanks...somebody, maybe you, mentioned the satellite situation
earlier, and this puts it graphically.

I've tried moving the antenna around during those dead times, but I can't seem to make it work. should I try moving it farther away from the prescribed direction (NNW for me?)

I know the obvious solution, but I'm not in a situation to afford both, or change it in the car (factory install)

16. DTV...
*** XM 31 - The Torch moves to XM Radio Online, DirecTV.
*** XM 61 - The Flow moves to XM Radio Online, DirecTV.
*** XM 95 - Luna moves to XM Radio Online, DirecTV.

expect the new music channels to be on DTV also, but none of the talk (rights issues), the only
talk on DTV (IIRC) are O&A and XMPR (both produced in-house).

I'm not a big fan of the Boneyard channel since they mostly play 80's butt-rock.

:woohoo:

I want a real heavy metal station - one that plays Pantera, Slayer, Tool, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest... not one that plays Quiet Riot, Whitesnake, Ratt and all that crap.
