Why doesn't Mel Gibson release another movie about Christ?

I mean it is Easter time. His movie on the Crucifixion was well-received by many. What better way to celebrate a major Christian holiday than to have another big-time Hollywood film depicting the life of Jesus? Maybe he's planning another one for Christmas to celebrate Christ's birth? How about a movie celebrating the miracles and good works of our Lord & Savior?

Hmmm....Now I don't doubt the depths of Mel's religious convictions at all. But could it be that the reason we saw "The Passion of Christ" in the first place was due to all the blood and suffering in the story, and he knew that alone would draw in the masses? Could it be that he carefully calculated the blood lust of those in rwing Khristianity and said this would put asses in the seats but a movie on the good works and love of Jesus would not? Could it be that Mel, just like Tim LaHaye of the Left Behind books figured out how to tap that fertile market of conservative fundamentalism? Say it ain't so Mel!

Let's see a movie on God's love and miracles in this world. What the world needs now more than ever is God's love, not more blood and mayhem. God's love would sell wouldn't it Mel?

However if he wants to interject the promotion of his movie with how deeply religious he is I would just love to see how deep those convictions truly are. To me the lack of him or anyone else making a movie on the LOVE of God exposes the rwingers for the opportunists they truly are.

I saw a brief but horribly video synopsis of it when i watched "The God Who wasn't There" (www.thegodmovie.com).........

At one point, a Roman soldier is depicted driving a nail into Jesus' shins. Gibson revels in the blood sacrifice so intimately that for that shot he has some flunky just under the camera...squirting a few drops of blood UPWARDS in syncopation with the hammer...

Mel Gibson is one sick fuck.

There are historical films from that period: Gladiator, Troy, Alexander. Maybe more.... Notable was the Ridley Scott movie about the Crusades that seemed to sidestep the question of religion. But nothing on the bible (the 10 commandments is, what, 40 years old?)

Instead we get Scary Movie IV and Friday the 13th part XXXVI.

I guess we can wait for Mel Gibson to do another Jesus movie in 2026 after he does Lethal Weapon 5 through 10.

I'd be happy with anyone making a decent Christian film. I couldn't bring myself to see the Passion because of the gore; didn't think I could handle it. It's not so much squeamishness but just I guess I'm too sensitive and get emotionally upset at this stuff. Maybe I'll rent the DVD -- somehow on a smaller screen it might not be as upsetting.
