Radio still uneasy with Dixie Chicks
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Country radio may be ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks.

The grudge dates back to 2003 when many country stations stopped playing the popular trio after lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush.

But the Chicks' new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is now in rotation in several major markets, pushing it to No. 36 on Billboard's country singles chart after its first full week of airplay. Other stations, however, have been slower to embrace it.

"I think a lot of people are in a wait-and-see mode," said Wade Jessen, director of Billboard's country charts. "The next couple of weeks are really going to tell the tale."

Maines told a London audience on the eve of the war in Iraq that the group was "ashamed" the president was from their home state of Texas.

1. Hmmm...
Maines told a London audience on the eve of the war in Iraq that the group was "ashamed" the president was from their home state of Texas.

Well, I'm ashamed the president is from the United States of America.

There. I've said it. They can stop playing my records if they want to, I don't care.

Go to www.dixiechicks.com to hear the new single...

on edit: the new CD is NOT Country. The Chicks refuse to record in that genre anymore.

5. The Country community has learned nothing.
Repug Trace Atkins (former drunkie) said that everyone should listen to country "music" for an hour, just to see that, as he claims, Country "Music" can "relate" to everyone. "You should be open minded while listening to it". I'd like to ask this Thug where THE HELL WHERE THE OPEN MINDS
FOR THE DIXIE CHICKS??? :eyes:

Country "Music" is crap!

8. Notice that country music (the genre) had to adapt/evolve
to move more to the mainstream to gain an audience . . .

Yeah, they are "waiting" to "see" what Dick Cheney and FAUX SNOOZE have to say about them first!

10. Has there been any other time in US history
where people have been taken off the air, received death threats, and had their books or CDs burned just for saying something negative about the president? This is America, not Nazi Germany (at least for the time being). The president is not a god!

13. Yes -- during the Blacklist, and the whole Act of Sedition, etc.
But, you would have thought we would have learned...
