I can't do this anymore.. I can't pretend we still live in a democracy, and I don't want to paint a target on my back on the way out.. I'm sick over this, just sick.. I don't want to get my family in trouble just for speaking out..

5. You think you feel bad?
My Senators are Hutchinson and Cornyn. They are on the Bush cheer leading team and it does me squat to call them, but I still do... I feel totally unrepresented here....

Calling Hutchison's office is a hoot. Last time I got some woman with a THICK Texas drawl who dared me that she had my phone #.

To the original poster:
Srange they said they'd "report" you...wonder what the hell that meant!

Good for you. I wish MSM would mention this signing statement.

6. what was the context of her threatening to "report you"?
You're not supposed to call your Sen's office and voice concerns now, or risk being "reported" on?If I were you I'd write LTTEs, get this story out, if there's anything to it. Send a formal complain to his office (may just be a problem w/1 staffer), etc.

20. Write a letter to the editor!
It would make more people aware of the signing statements, & hoepfully embarrass your Senator, too. Their threat to "report you" just shows how inherently facist some people can be.

7. Call your local newspaper and turn them in for threatening
Not to mention lying. If you live near Tampa, give Daniel Ruth a call at the Tribune. He'd LOVE a story like this.

8. I think what she meant to say is better not question the ...
dear leader or she'll call FOX security.

These people are con-men and they think everybody is stupid. They'll threaten you with some sort of police action like a bill collector threatens you with legal action. I hate these MF's!

Did you get the staffer's name? There might be other FL DUers who'd like to call Martinez' office and discuss this issue with her.

18. If it makes you feel any better
you just inspired me to call my Senator, and he does care. In fact, he's pretty good about input from out of staters. Why don't you give his office a call, and tell them your story. Senator Leahy has spoken out about this.

19. Here is Bush comments on this: the day he signed

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/03/20060309-8.html

President's Statement on H.R. 199, the "USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005"

Today, I have signed into law H.R. 3199, the "USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005," and then S. 2271, the "USA PATRIOT Act Additional Reauthorizing Amendments Act of 2006." The bills will help us continue to fight terrorism effectively and to combat the use of the illegal drug methamphetamine that is ruining too many lives.

The executive branch shall construe the provisions of H.R. 3199 that call for furnishing information to entities outside the executive branch, such as sections 106A and 119, in a manner consistent with the President's constitutional authority to supervise the unitary executive branch and to withhold information the disclosure of which could impair foreign relations, national security, the deliberative processes of the Executive, or the performance of the Executive's constitutional duties.

The executive branch shall construe section 756(e)(2) of H.R. 3199, which calls for an executive branch official to submit to the Congress recommendations for legislative action, in a manner consistent with the President's constitutional authority to supervise the unitary executive branch and to recommend for the consideration of the Congress such measures as he judges necessary and expedient.
