By now our biggest fear should be that there will NOT be a civil war
in Iraq and that ALL the Iraqis will turn against us. After the number of innocents killed by US forces these past two weeks has been revealed, we need to get our troops out of there. They don't have enough forces to fight ALL the Iraqis.

1. Compared to what?

Exactly how and when will we know Iraq has crossed over the "brink" of civil war? How will it compare to what's going on now? You don't think there are too many Iraqis against the troops now? And can we honestly believe that the Shiites WOULDN'T turn against us simply because Bush put them in power? "Unity government," my donkey!

7. I know....and the sad part is that there is historical perspective
to prevent the same identical thing from happening again...sigh..

10. Any military expert will tell you that the most difficult maneuver
to execute is the "retreat under fire." Hope competent members of the officer corps (who haven't been infected by RW evangelical BS) have made contingency plans to retreat. Maybe the easiest would be north through Kurdistan and into Turkey.

6. nobody can stop it
This conflict between Shiites and Sunnis has a much older basis in Iraq than democracy. I do not see how we ever planned to prevent it. Nevermind the fact that we installed a government controlled by religion. Could we ever expect the controlling Shiites to just ignore all the history of conflict with Sunnis and turn to a democracy? Could we ever expect Sunnis to accept a Shiite government?

Please correct me if any of this is wrong!

8. If you read the 5 page memo between * and Blair that
was just released...

Paraphrasing...
"* didn't think that there would be any intercene fighting in Iraq"

* had no idea of the history of this region in the world, the Brits got their buts kicked and all other invaders got kicked out just as we will.....he didn't even know there were 3 tribes that had been warring for hundreds of years....

You are absolutley correct....it was beyond naive to think that an outside force could force Democracy on this region in 6 month, 1 year or 2 years...

11. i will think of him
I think we are all concerned about the troops over there and I am sure you of all people know that supporting the troops and being concerned about their safety is completely different than supporting the war.

I hope your son is safe.

12. I say a prayer for your son and all of the soldiers
in Iraq and Afghanistan every night that they go unharmed and come home safely.
