we have now become such a guarded, unfriendly country.
and i mean, "guarded" as in the psychological meaning of the word, "guarded". as if there is someone out to get us at any turn of any corner, as if we have to look under the bed before we go to bed to make sure that the boogie man is not there, as if we are expecting to be stabbed in the back if we say the wrong thing, step into the wrong puddle--we have become a nation of maniacs run by a highly maniacle family.

1. The new paranoia
Spawned and fed by:

Countless speeches drenched with repetitions of "terrorists" and variations thereof
Color coded "terror alerts" manipulated frequently, to keep the nation ever afraid of imminent doom
Taped threats from Osama Bin Laden, which conveniently show up just when the public is beginning to relax and wonder how valid their fears really are (or when Bush needs to push through some piece of legislation that further restricts civil rights)

And so on, and so on.

4. Always have been
Even when we were the immigrants we were xenophobes. Had to conquer those savage Indians, you know. :eyes: Then, as time passed, the Italians, Jews, Poles, and so on were the enemy. If s/he isn't a lilly-white Christian (and the "right" kind of Christian, mind you) s/he's automatically suspect.

3. This country sucks
I'm growing tired of it and I'm only 24.

Hate hate hate everywhere.
Politicians that don't do anything for the people.
A President and Congress who feed us absolute bullshit when it comes to what happened on 9/11.
An election system that is seriously flawed on many levels.
A media that doesn't really report anything in-depth...or even the truth in many cases.
People unwilling to listen but rather spend their time absorbed into their lives.

Really...I'd say it'd be great to fix all this shit but where do you begin...it's too much.
