So Cegalis Won't Endorse Duckworth

Normally, I'd be disgusted by this, but Cegalis was treated so poorly by Congressional dems and others that I find her behavior somewhat understandable. The Hill article will give you a good idea of just how kicked to the curb Cegalis and grassroots politics were. The unseemly haste to find Iraq vets (particularly ones with visible scars) is a real turn off to me. It's just incredibly self serving.

It doesn't always work out that way, as you know. It is easy to say something like that and dismiss all the hard work, sweat, pain and hard earned money people poured into that race and blow it way with "you lost-get over it". especially under the circumstances that prevailed.

I am finding my commitment to this lame assed party often challenged these days, too.

4. This Means Zero In IL-6th

I drove through the district yesterday...all the political signs are gone, people are more worried about laying turf builder on their lawns than who is running for the House.

Most importantly, there's a campaign that will be run in that district...Cegelis or Duckworth, it will be a difficult pick-up no matter who the candidate is. Even if Cegelis had won the primary, her road to election this year would have been as difficult as it had been in 2004 where many complained then that there was precious little help from the national party. At least in Duckworth, there's the committment of money to win this seat.

Yes, I supported Christine and was sad to see her lose, but I've lived in this area for over 25 years and have seen the area gradually become one where Democrats can run competitively. This isn't some solid blue area where the primary battle is the election...be it Duckworth or Cegelis, the work ahead is going to be very difficult to win this seat. Hopefully one day, the area will have changed significantly that we'll have the luxuary of supporting "whose the better Democrat", but for right now, the options are clear...either support Duckworth or let Hastert put his toadie into that seat.

7. Dean was treated about as poorly as anyone by the Party during his primary

but he swallowed his pride and worked for Kerry and he is still trying to make something of the Democratic Party--working from within it. Cegelis sounds like another Nader-like spoiler to me--is this what Progressive means? I am a liberal, but I am also a realist. You can rarely get 100% of what you want in a candidate. Geez!

8. Dean is a professional who plans to fight another day.....

Cegelis apparently feels-"If I can't win, I'll take my marbles and go home."

Dean will continue to be a major player because he refuses to be silenced and can handle defeat without folding. He's a fighter who understands you don't win every battle but you still play for the team and you continue fighting regardless. Cegelis is showing her political amateurism and will be forgotten as a political force within days unless she reverses course and becomes a little more realistic.

Hopefully, Dr Dean can talk sense to her. Winning back congress seat by seat is far more important than any one aspiring politician's hurt feelings.
