If the Dems take over in Nov, will you change your mind about
electronic voting?

I was just thinking about this while listening to Guy James talking about never trusting any election using "these machines".

1. no
In fact, I'm willing to say I think we should all go back to paper and pencil and I frankly don't care if it takes 2 months to count all the ballots.

3. i have always been of one mind - Yes and No - on this issue
It will be the wave of the future, it will be fixed, but it will take eternal vigilence to insure transparent process, low or no error rates, and confirmable results.

5. No
Winning under a flawed system is cheapened by its flaws. All it would mean is that the Republicans didn't have what it took to "cover the spread".

We ought to have a voting system of unquestioned integrity. The current generation of electronic voting machines are crap. We can do better -- and we must.

6. not for one minute. here's why:
1) they need democrats in power periodically to raise taxes so they have more money to loot later.

2) they can only steal "stealable" elections. if the democrats are polling 70-30%, then they can't steal that election without people figuring it out. 55-45% elections, however, are stealable.

3) even if they could, they have to lose occasionally, if only to avoid suspicion.

12. I wish I could agree with you, but they have this figured out.
They can blame screwy results on single-issue voters, or on the youth vote not coming out, or bad polling. As long as the "results" show a big enough margin of victory they won't even have to face recounts.

14. up to a point, yes. but not beyond a certain point.
people know don't know what 55-45% feels like vs. 45-55%, that's why there are polls and such.

but people do know when a community is 70% in favor of something, and if it turns out they "lose", then they know something is up.

i agree they might even be able to do this a few times, but not regularly. just because you're cheating doesn't mean you can't get get caught.

7. No. To me, it would just mean that they want a Dem to win to
clean up their mess - when it's cleaned up, they'll get another Rep in office. A pattern that's been repeated over and over. Because the Dems aren't screaming to high Heaven over the machines, I have a feeling it's all a big game between the parties and we were'nt invited.

Nothing will change my mind. I would be worried that we are
being set up for a bigger fall in 2008, or somewhere else down the road.

8. No, we must have a paper trail. Period. No exceptions.
We must have transparent elections. Votes must be verifiable by an independent third party, and I believe mandatory spot checks should be made of the paper ballots to compare accuracy to the electronic results.

Anything less is not American.

9. I liked how I voted this time....
It was a paper ballot, and then instead of dropping it in a box to be collected and counted later, it was dropped through a scanner, and then landed in the box below. A message appeared on the screen stating that my vote had been tallied. It seemed like an efficient way to count, as opposed to meeting in a central location to have then scanned and tallied. But the paper ballot was kept intact for recount.

10. No - not as long as they are controlled by GOP leaning companies
& have no paper trail. Source code needs to be made public.

13. Absolutely not.....
Until the whole process is transparant....records can be checked and verified...paper receipts are available for voters.....checks and balances and a rigid testing policy to validate the machines function properly....until then...

No electronic Voting.

17. I'm not surprised at all the NO responses, but don't you think something
like a Dem win just MIGHT get Pubs fighting for the same thing we've been fighting for since 1999?

I think, as long as there's ever a question about voting that is unanswerable, the system must be changed. Perception is reality! But so far, I wouldn't be surprised that the Pubs actually do think the machines are fixed,a and they they don't CARE because they're WINNING! If that changed, I think it could be just what America needs to make documented ballots a rality!

If by some miracle, they can beat it, then they need to get to work on election reform so a horrid situation we are in like this never happens again.
