Regarding the protests. Who were the protesters?
The reason I ask is this, if they were illegal aliens demonstrating, why weren't they just picked up, or were they people that just support illegal aliens? Seems to me, that would have been the PERFECT time to round up the 'furriners' and ship 'em home...

I myself am a legal alien, and I had to jump through hoops to get here and stay here. I missed Raygun's amnesty back in the 80's by eight days and at the time it pissed me off to no end. I had to get a lawyer, spend a good amount of money, subject myself to medical exams and interviews, and yet all the illegals had to do was prove that they'd escaped detection and been in the country illegally prior to a certain date. However that anger has subsided.

This bill, with all of it's various nasty barbs, will NOT solve the problem. It will not even put a dent in it. Guest worker/amnesty is the way to go in the short term, and proper, serious investment in border security is necessary for the long term, or we'll be having this same discussion in 20 years all over again.

If the main beef from the knuckle-draggers on the right is about the "drain" the illegals place on the system, wouldn't legalizing them, and then taxing ALL OF them at least in part help to alleviate this "strain"?

The bottom line here is that this is a paper tiger. Fear is no longer working as a prime motivating factor for either the sheeple or the republicans, so another issue has to be raised to rally the haters to the flag, and almost nothing works better than folks that speak a different language and look different. It has worked for every facist regime in history, why would it not work this time?

2. Illegals are 'taxed'
If they are using an SS number, then they are putting money in the SS fund that they will NEVER see

They have to eat, pay rent, buy gas...all items that are taxed.

That part of the argument is so bogus

3. Only those that use an SSN though...
And here's an interesting question. How come the IRS can't figure out that the taxes being paid are for illegal work? Someone in another thread said that sometimes the SSN the illegals use is piggy-backed on a legitimate one from other legal applicants? Wouldn't the IRS pick up on that?

4. You're assuming that those that hire illegals
are forwarding those withheld funds to the Federal government. Nefarious type that I am, since I was already breaking the law, I'd just pocket that and the withheld taxes and the non-payed workers comp and..........well you get the idea.
However since these employers are all more honorable and law-abiding than I, they are probably sticklers on payroll also.

5. Now, in Los Angeles, it's high school students
It has the smell of revolution in the air, just a faint whiff right now. But watching LAPD Chief of Police Bratton eating a shit sandwich last night on television made my fucking day.
