Tolkein's Lord of the Rings series. Ents were sentient trees that could speak and talk. They had faces of a sort and could move from place to place. Some were small and other, more ancient ones were giant. The trees decided to help the "good guys" and crush the army of Saruman, an evil wizard, and rip apart his fortress.
