Baby born with two fetuses inside her:

Curiouser and curiouser.

<snip>
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Surgeons operated on a 2-month-old Pakistani girl Tuesday to remove two fetuses that had grown inside her while she was still in her mother's womb, a doctor said.

The infant, who was identified only as Nazia, was in critical condition following the two-hour operation at The Children's Hospital at Pakistan Institute of Medical Science in the capital, Islamabad, said Zaheer Abbasi, head of pediatric surgery at the hospital.

Abbasi, the chief doctor who led the operation, said the case was the first he was aware of in Pakistan of fetus-in-fetu, where a fetus has grown inside another in the womb.

<snip>
Abbasi said surgeons removed the two partially grown fetuses, totaling about two pounds, that had died at about 4 months.

Imagine for a moment, this child had been delivered prematurely and the fetuses had not yet died - would that constitute an acceptable abortion?

2. Did the Intelligent Designer have a lapse of intelligence or
maybe one too many drinks or one too many hits?

These stories fly in the face of the Intelligent Design theory.

6. Can you imagine going to first grade with your two daughters?
What a hoot that would be. Kids act up and she could spank them right there. She could sign her kids report cards. I wonder if she would have to get hers signed? So many neat stories! Going to get clothing all the same size! A retiring at the same time.

7. This sounds like two of three triplets that got engulfed by the other.
A medical oddity, but it happens. I think the tumor called a teratoma is just that, a partially developed twin that never quite made it, and got engulfed by the survivor.

22. Probably what happened.
I have actually met several couples who have had one of two twins or one of three triplets "disappear" between the early weeks of pregnancy and the end of the first trimester (or there abouts).

12. I Mean This Respectfully.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 10:54 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
This is a pretty serious story and I'm sure it is an incredibly tough situation on the parents. I'm not sure diminishing its meaning and twisting its relevance merely for the sake of getting a pro-choice poke in is in good taste.

May God Be With That Family.

Please tell me you don't need help understanding why this would be a tough situation on the parents. (shaking head from side to side in awe)

I'm with you--I read this and looked at that picture of a little baby girl in a horrific situation, and I cried.

Apparently, for some, it's a laughing matter... :(

14. Jesus Christmas...
I hope she is okay--poor baby. I guess the only plus is that if she survives, she won't remember going through that.

I've never heard such a bizarre story, but I can't find it amusing as some here seem to... that's a tiny little baby--it's not funny when a tiny little baby has to have major, potentially life-threatening surgery.

30. Remember the boy with the twin attached to his skull and the furor over
it's removal, even though it was only a parasitic head without any organs of its own...? There's your answer.

32. Here's an even worse case of a two-headed baby
I'll refrain from posting the picture.

No, this is not the National Enquirer. Baby Manar Maged in Egypt known as the ‘two headed girl’ had survived an earlier operation to remove a parasitic twin joined at her head. However, on Saturday, she passed away after succumbing to an infection in her brain. Maner was only 10 months old when surgeons operated on her for 13 consecutive hours and managed to successfully separate the parasitic twin. The twin seen in the photo was not expected to survive even with the surgery or with the passage of natural time. Physicians stated that the twin could do little more but blink and smile.
