Whatever happened to Republicans being for small govt?
We heard this all the time when Democrats were in power.

Whatever happened to this part of their platform?

1. That part of their platform is secondary to their main theme:
"DO AS WE SAY, NOT AS WE DO."

2. Nothing but branding....
... a nicer code word for the racism of their "states' rights" position - it polls better with people who, for a variety of reasons, don't want to be publically associated with racist policies.

Republicans are simply for *republican* government - thing is, they can't get elected that way.

10. I do think we in the North were better off with the State Rights thing
They even bused Blacks north when that fight was going on. Well they were racist in the South but do recall that the South voted Dem just as it is voting GOP now. That to me meant it was a race thing in the South and nothing to do with party. Dem. cashed in once then the GOP did. It is all very odd to me but I do think I hear echos of State rights coming back. More and more seem to be doing as they like and are ahead of the federal gov. Many seem to not like the tone of the feds so are doing more self gov. on their own. Be interesting to see what tone the states take in things.

11. Nah - the Civil Rights fight just mishmashed the parties a bit is all...
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 08:50 AM by BlooInBloo
In a nutshell: The Civil Rights fight in the 60s effectively INTERCHANGED the parties.

Expanded version: google (the search "dixiecrat republican" sounds like a promising start).

EDIT: Poor choice of title. Re-tooled.

Being for small government now would be like cannibalism to them.

5. It was all lies
ever bit of it ... LIES LIES LIES (yeah)

fiscal responsibility, small govt, no debt, no regime changes, blues skies, no child left behind,
transparency in govt, personal liberties, constitutional rights, etc etc etc.

Poor Abe Lincoln would barf in his hat if he saw what George Bush and the reichwingers had done to his party.

7. Whatever happened to Repubs being for ANYthing they say they're for?
More jobs
Small Govt
Fair elections
Corporate accountability
Less Partisanship
Less welfare
Pro-life
Free press
Uphold the Constitution
Curbing the entertainment industry

Seems it's all a big ruse to get votes.

15. Now how could that have slipped my mind?
Probably because it's been so long since I've experienced a government that actually practices it.

8. Republicans can't have a small government
and still keep all of the little people down, so they've gone with the logical choice for perpetuating their dirty-doings: big, big, big, ol' honkin' government.

9. "Small gov" means...
They want what it is they've specifically set out to do: establish a draconian oligarchy for the elite and privledged, while abolishing social funding for their human cattle. They're banking on the hope that the people will never figure out how badly they're being screwed and imprisoned, and won't rise up and shred the fascist pigs with their bare hands.

Unfortunately for them, their party leaders don't.
