My #1 reason why the republicans dislike of illegal immigration = bunk
The flow of illegal drugs. Even more so than cheap labor this a huge money maker for them and their supporters.

The war on drugs is a very profitable government scam. It's heavily embraced by the general public and as such they eat it up when they see more money being funneled into it. Even if that money is coming from their taxes, it's being spent on a "worthy cause" in their eyes.

The scam provides an almost bottomless purse of funds (and votes in many cases) all the way from the highest office of the President to the counsel provider of a new faith based program. They haven't even begun to tap into all they ways the can exploit the war on drugs yet, there's still a fortune to be made from the manipulation of illegal drugs and their effects on society.

If they were to invest this money in sealing the borders the illegal drug trade would be painfully reduced. They can't have that since the kickbacks wouldn't be padding their pockets and the pockets of their supporters. No, they are not going to give up that cash cow willingly. For all the pretty words they say the reality is they have no intentions of actually doing something about illegal immigration or our borders. This is all just fluff they're dishing up to create a controversy and twist it against the Dems.

That's my thoughts on the matter.

1. Yeah, and Afghanistan's heroin production is really booming
since we've invaded. Funny how all this works, huh?

5. Whatever a war is declared ON, it's always FOR.
War on Drugs is War FOR Drugs. War on Poverty is War FOR Poverty. And, of course, the War on Te**or is a War FOR Te**or.

7. I was thinking about this last night
Has there ever been a "war" declared on any domestic issue by our government that they've won? Sure not that I can think of.

I think we should revoke their foreign war privileges until they win won here at home.

3. Makes sense.
But I'm wondering if you have any links that show a connection between pubs and drug money? I'd like to practice some talking points.

6. I'm not saying it's only the republicans
I said it was a government scam. Republicans are behind the initial "war on drugs" however, I've seen it exploited by both sides before. Republicans are also behind the recent faux push on illegal immigration.

Most recent burn my butt: The new faith based funding for mandatory programs for durg offenders. They do not have to be proven to work, hell, they don't even have to have a better recovery rate than others. They're letting every yahoo with a 6 week course and an afflation with a religions organization provide "treatment" that isn't doing a thing.

This is on my local state level (Texas) but this scam starts at the top and goes all the way down to local levels. Huge money involved, huge.

8. Well I do know that when you have a huge
money maker like drugs, you can bet it isn't just the street guys making the bucks.

4. Good point
I honestly don't know how I feel about illegal immigration. This issue has too many angles for me too process. I do believe in a humane immigration policy, and that the minute men are not the way to go. I also feel that the answer lies somewhere between the two extremes but like I said the solution is beyond me.

10. All those angles and confusion make it perfect for the repugs to use
against the Dems.

For a large block of republican voters it's simple, they don't like anyone not like themselves. If you're brown they will assume you are less worthy than they are. They don't care if you're legal or not, just so long as you're brown.

I'm conflicted on illegal immigration, myself. I know people who are trying to get family into the US now for years legally. They are no closer now then when they started. It makes me understand why some who can't afford the time or money choose not to go that route. I'm not saying they're right, just I can see how they come to the decision.

We do need a better system, but I'm not going to hold my breath that we'll see anything in the near future.

9. Very interesting angle...
you may very well be right. These bastards have no shame and absolutely no ethics. :puke:

And I agree with whoever posted upthread that all the "WAR ON _____" memes are in reality "WAR FOR _____" practices. :grr:

11. They never mean what they say
It's all about marketing what they want in a way that will sell to the American public. Want to make a ton of money on illegal drugs but you need the publics support to finance your scam? Easy, just create a "war" on drugs and manufacture some news showing how illegal drugs and scary whacked out addicts are destroying the country for the good Americans. Before you know it you're on your way to easy street.
