Jack Abramoff should be executed, not be in prision
I am serious about this: white collar corporate criminals should be executed, not sent off to the club fed. They are every bit as dangerous as the worst terrorist or violent criminal (they should be executed too). The reason they are so dangerous is that as powerful businesspersons they have much more of an ability to get back into the business world upon their release from prison, and hence, do more damage. They do damage to people's lives that lasts for decades, and in some cases their corporate skulduggery results indirectly in people losing their lives.

If major corporate crime was punishable by death, you would see a lot less of it. Furthermore, if conservative well to do white men could actually get the death penalty, it would be a real wakeup call to the corporate crook community.

1. Should we chop off the hands of shoplifters too?
Get real.

2. Instead of killing them, why not make them work for a change?
Put them on hard labor and see how they like it. Make them keep doing it for the duration of their sentences.

5. I think hard labor instead of swanky federal prison would
be appropriate.

Must you start this particular flame war? With as many people as there are on this board who believe the death pentaly is always wrong...what in the world makes you think you're going to get away with the death penalty for white collar criminals?

Now, if you want to talk about the "corporate death penalty" and taking away corporate charters...that's a different matter altogether.

4. Check out the murder rate in the US, along with the execution rate.
Now do the same for Canada. Notice anything?

7. I disagree. For a multitude of reasons...
First, the death penalty is not necessarily a deterrant, as has often been proven with regard to current capital crimes.

Second, Abramhoff is cooperating with prosecutors. If he wer eto be given the death penalty, that would not be the case

Third, I don't think any form of robbery, no matter how extreme, should carry the death penalty. This goes beyond even the harsh justice of "an eye for an eye."

Fourth, I disagree generally with the death penalty for any crime. With regard to the Iraq War, we are always talking about how it has reduced America's credibility. Doesn't the death penalty reduce America's credibility in a similar fashion?

8. That's just loony.
The Death Penalty should be abolished. It can never be made fair. As Blackmun said, we should stop tinkering with the machinery of death. Your suggestion that we execute violent criminals as well as white collar criminals (should Martha Stewart have been executed?) would mean that we'd be executing thousands and thousands of people a year; a truly evil scenario.

9. A man can be broken many times but killed only once.
It would be more fitting if we put Jack in the same kind of prison that Bruce Wayne trainned in in Batman Begins. Can you just picture Abramoff on a chain gang? Hey Jack lobby this LOL.

11. I think stripping them of their wealth would be enough. That's what they
love most, anyway.

13. The death penalty should be put to death... make him wish he were dead
I'd make him work in a soup kitchen during the day and make him sleep at the Midnight Mission at night. People like him have no clue. After his initial shock and horror, he may just grow a heart.
